Money CAN Buy You Love

Let’s take a quick trip in the WAYBAC machine, not too long ago when Georgia was beaten by Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, and all the talk was about Kiffin and his appearance in the broadcast booth or his spying on the team or players being pissed at him leaving. Here’s a quotable notable:

Good for him. After all, only a man with integrity would stick with his program and spurn the pay raise and big dump trucks of money to see the playoff run through. Thats the kind of coach you want to play for, and Zxavian Harris took a rightful stand against it!

Flash forward a few months and crappy NFL preseason camp later:

Well, well, well.

  1. That’s two players from Ole Miss whose NFL dreams didn’t start as planned that have transferred to LSU. The other is the TE from Perry, GA.

I know the SEC released a statement, but what is that going to do. This is utter bullsh!t they can do this.

  2. Apparently there is talk that the SEC isnt going to allow this horse shit even if the NCAA is afraid not to. Here’s hoping. Good night I despise Joey Freshwater.

    • I’ll believe it when I see it, but all the conference has to do is say any team that plays an athlete who signed a contract with a professional team after 4 years of college (5 starting next year) will have their annual revenue check revoked and split between all the other teams who play by the rules. Problem solved. No anti-trust either.

      • I don’t think this will be an issue next season. I think it only impacted the current players that just left school. Next year the players already know the 5 years to play 5 seasons is in play. This past class didn’t know when they were making the decision to leave school.

        • I don’t assume anything anymore, but belts and suspenders are useful tools for a regulatory framework.

    • I don’t blame Kiffin or the players. They are just playing by the rules that are set. The NCAA should have said the Class of 2022 was grandfathered in from the get go when they announced the 5 to play 5 rule. These players didn’t know they had a choice when they were dealing with draft decisions.

      • This is going to set a precedent. That’s the thing these judges either can’t or won’t understand. Next year a 3rd or 4th year player leaves and then wants to come back. If there’s no federal legislation, the judges are going to allow it.

Apparently, the B1G is ready to vote to say no to these players who signed NFL contracts.

        • Exactly. The Big 10 is about to pass a rule barring NFL players from returning and playing on a big 10 team. Making the SEC leadership looking that much weaker.

  3. Gosh, Kiffin is such a big man to welcome back that prodigal son. SNORT

  4. Was it a Louisiana judge that made this possible?

Is the next step allowing all former college athletes to return if wanted to play 5 years.

Hopefully the SEC will fight to stop this. I really don’t care for Lane Kiffin.

    • The $ec might act like they’re putting up a $top $ign, that ain’t gonna happen as long as litigation is a distinct alternative….cfb is officially the hyper drive $hit $how with a $tench to match, that we all prayed wasn’t really that $tinky…no college sport is off limits to those who don’t make it at the next level…a list will evolve concerning those who go school for the potential education vs those who participate in sport and do not arrive in a class room or zoom location to further their education….GO DAWGS!!

  5. He’s playing the “Other people are going to do it, so we’re going to do it first” victim card. I want to know who is getting cut to make room for these players.

LSU fans are defending it to no end online. If Alabama was doing this, the Corn Dogs would be raising hell about it.

    • You know the JR Ewing “Golden Rule”: do unto others before they do unto you…..

      • I do like what Dan Lanning has said.

OTOH, the Just for Men’s spokescoach is saying we have to do what’s best for Ohio State … which means I’m going to do what’s best for me.

  6. Looks like it might be time for Herschel Walker to come back and repair his legacy. He’s got two to play.

When Stafford retires, he could probably hang for another couple of years and finally get that natty that eluded him as well.

      • Stafford’s not even going thru workouts with the Rams. But he’s earned that…

        • Stafford may have earned whatever at the next level, there does come into play the conversation of leading by example, don’t know what happens in the rams planning room…GO DAWGS!!

  7. Today’s episode on Kiffin’s Kajun Kast: Gettin’ the Gang back togetha! Has the SEC ran it by Mackerfee to see if they can block this?

  8. I continue to be so lost in the legal arguments and rulings. Anyone can go to college for as long as they want provided they meet academic acceptance requirements, pay tuition and there is space available. But a voluntary association governing college sports should be able to set its own rules. Individuals are protected against rules that are discriminatory or (now) deemed to interfere with one’s NIL rights. Setting age limits and number of years of participation are not discriminatory…but do we have court injunctions claiming they are? Surely the Appellate Courts can overturn such rulings quickly? How is the NCAA losing these cases? Why isn’t the NCAA imposing sanctions and college presidents (who are the NCAA after all) agreeing to punish offenders (the schools not the kids)? I understand why Jeffrey Kessler won in court about the money. I understand tin pot judges in MS can make ludicrous rulings for injunctions but at some point how has the legal system not finally reaffirmed the rights of a sporting association to set its own rules? I hear the “it’s a cartel” argument but that’s about the money not eligibility. If Little League baseball can set rules why not the NCAA? Or are they simply next and we’ll see HoF retired baseball players back in Williamsport playing against 12 year olds?

If Cash Jones gets cut and comes back to play for us I’m sorry but I’m finally done with this.

    • The wheels of justice turn slowly – by the time the appeals of virtually all of these cases have gotten to an appellate court, the season is over, so the plaintiff dismisses their case, and there is no case or controversy for the appellate court to review, and so there is never a definitive ruling from the appellate court delivering the well-deserved bench-slapping to these trial court judges who are handing out TROs and PIs like candy on Halloween….

  9. The endless thirstiness of programs like LSU to win at sports makes me not want to even watch. The misplaced priorities of LSU, a mediocre school which sits in a state mired in poverty and all that comes with it, are ridiculous. I know it is usually good to have villains in sports, but I have no interest in watching the group of overpaid mercenaries assembled by LSU and their POS coach this year.

  10. The college presidents and ADs whored themselves out for money so now they are reaping what they sowed. I see 2 paths 1) roll out contracts like the rest of the world does for paid employees. Non competes, golden handcuffs, and incentives work well everywhere else. 2) Go full Ivy League rules.

I get closer to walking away from my season tickets every day.
