I’ll Tell If You Tell

Pete Golding, with a stern retort to the idea that the NCAA is going to investigate him and Ole Miss’s tampering allegations:

MIRAMAR BEACH, FL – Ole Miss coach Pete Golding, at the center of a high-profile NCAA investigation into alleged tampering, has informed the NCAA he will expose rampant tampering in the sport if sanctioned, a person close to the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

Golding declined comment to USA TODAY Sports when asked Wednesday if he threatened the NCAA — but spoke at length on tampering problems in college football.

“I think a lot of things make headlines,” Golding said. “There’s a lot more people involved that everybody might not know. I’m not gonna sit up here and say whatever we did or we didn’t do, was it right or was it wrong? But, you know, when you go through what we went through (with tampering), and what you’re seeing day-in and day-out, some things you feel like shouldn’t matter that, you know, they’re making a big deal about.”

In truth, it’s the offseason, so there is probably more being blown up about this than it would receive were it during the season. But, for some reason, Golding is the first coach to get really called out on it AND have the threat of NCAA investigations to follow. Tampering has been alleged for as long as the portal and NIL have been a thing, but something about this has a stink to it.

Is it that no one can believe Ole Miss is this good? You don’t hear the same for the Indianas and Miamis of college football who thrive off this, so why Golding and Ole Miss? Is it because Golding killed Alabama’s defense and King Saban is giving the thumbs down from afar?

If Golding decides to sing, let me be the first to say it’d would make me happy to give me more blogging fodder, but do I think anything would happen to anyone as a result?

Nah. But it would worth buying some extra popcorn, wouldn’t it?

  1. Tampering is happening all over college sports. The problem in this case is that it happened after a player had already transferred and there appears to be documented proof.

That’s why we need a true 1-time free transfer rule with no waivers.

  2. Just when you think it can’t get anymore F’d up. The saga continues and who knows where it will stop. Get me outta here Percy!!!

  3. Pete is right about one thing. The cooks behind college football don’t want light put on their recipe.

  4. Fuck Golden & the mule he rode in on.
Maybe he can reveal all & wrap LSU in as well.

  5. It didn’t turn out so well for the last Old Piss coach that said “come after me”.

  6. Yeah. It always turns out great for you when you start accusations. If you’re going to sing, you’d better have some proof of it, Pete.

  7. JP, just a bag of popcorn. If Pete the Silverback starts beating his chest and spewing names, I’m going to buy the whole damn popcorn machine. Talk about some entertaining writing!

  8. So Golding holds no responsibility to spill the beans UNLESS he’s investigated? Ummm…that’s not how that’s supposed to work unless he is avoiding exposure of himself. Which he is. So he’s just an unethical POS regardless. I’m sure the other coaches must love him. Once again I lament the lack of moral, ethical and professional leadership throughout our system of “higher education”. There really is no one left who will stand up and call all of this out. And I’m sure if they did they’d be taken out. Might as well make Tony Soprano commish (RIP James Gandolfi).

  9. Pete’s like the guy who gets fined by his HOA for parking a boat in his driveway, so he builds a fence to conceal it and then paints a picture of his boat on the fence.

Clever, but you’re still a dick and your wife is weighing her options…

  10. Widespread Pete better be ready to sing…because they’re coming after his ass.
