If If’s and But’s Were Gumps and Buckeyes

Oh, Brother.

Let me help him out. If we had a kicker who could make a clutch field goal, we win that game.

There, fixed it for you.

Football is a game complete with if’s and but’s.

  • If Terrence Edwards catches the ball against Florida in 2002.
  • If Brice Hunter doesn’t drop a pass in Neyland.
  • If DJ hadn’t gotten hurt in 2005.
  • If Murray had spiked the ball.
  • If we ran Gurley on three consecutive goal line possessions.
  • If Alabama didn’t have Tua.
  • If Alabama didn’t have Milroe.
  • If we didn’t call for a fake punt with Fields.
  • If we hadn’t thrown multiple interceptions and missed a field goal against South Carolina in 2019.
  • If Newman hadn’t opted out over COVID.
  • If Pickens hadn’t been suspended.
  • If Beck and Bell get the end around right.
  • If every star receiver we had hadn’t been arrested or injured.
  • If Stockton had better downfield vision.

It makes for good stories and driving home the narrative that college football is as much heartache as it is celebration.

But, damn, if this doesn’t get old.

  1. So Day is saying it needed an incorrect call by the officials in order to win.

  2. And maybe if Harrison hadn’t stepped out of bounds? And what about that nitwit Florida fan that ratted out Gurley for signing autographs?

  3. Day’s a colossal schlub. JP nailed it……they had us dead-to-rights at the end, but couldn’t finish. That’s on them. Despite the natty, it could be argued that no coach in the modern game has done less with more. I mean look at the upcoming draft…quite possibly half of the first 10 picks will be from last year’s Columbus Crybabies roster.

  4. So he wants something called that did not happen to give them the game so he can win. Whiner!!

  5. If they don’t call pass interference on Miami in 02, Ohio State loses that game.

  6. There’s such thing as reasonable “ifs” and nonsense “ifs”. Day is arguing for upholding the wrong call because it favored his team. Alabama was arguing about WR injuries in 2017 when Georgia was without Pickens for the entire regular season.

If the officials in 2017 did their job correctly, Kirby beats Saban for a title in year 2, and 2nd and 26 never happens because Georgia wins it in regulation.
