As the hand-wringing and anticipation of kickoff grows stronger during the lead up to kickoff, there are no doubt fan bases that need to be reminded of this:
For today’s purposes of discussion…which SEC fan base is operating the most on hope this year? I think legitimate argument could be made for the following groups:
- Alabama – Hope about DeBoer or hope that the dynasty is falling and Kirby is taking the reigns for good
- Texas – Hope that they’re “back” for real
- Arkansas – Hope that the Petrino experiment works
- Tennessee – Hope that “this is the year our world’s best offense finally does it” and that Nico is really the thing and not another hyped up QB
I tend to think Florida fans have lost hope, and Auburn is in an almost a coma-like state after years of mediocrity. Maybe I’m wrong.
What’s your thoughts?
Don’t forget the Gamecock fans…they remind me of my kid self in the mid to late 80s. During spring training, I’d say, out loud, “maybe this is the year the Braves win the World Series.”
Perhaps hopelessness disguises itself as delusion.
True story: for a while I was a member of a Toastmasters Club where members would practice public speaking, so every year I would give a speech in February/March explaining why this was the year they put it all together. In February 1991 another member got an invite to the Braves Jamboree in John Schuerholz first year as GM, and I got to go with him largely because of my speech routine. It was great fun and I got autographs from Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, Jeff Treadway, and Ernie Johnson, Sr. Anyway, the Braves did get it all together that year, proving that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then. If you don’t have hope, you don’t have anything.
Hope is a very good thing, but I had rather have a great defense.
Texas and Bama have a lot of hope. Maybe Ole Miss is in there, too.
Tennessee is just delusional, sort of like Sackerlina.
Is your program “hopeful”, “praying for hope”, hoping reality doesn’t bitch slap you in mid season, telling you “there is no hope” or just plain old “hopeless”….GO DAWGS!!
My bad, the only fucking hope for FU, is that program digs an port-o-let type opening in the shit hole defined as their football field, climbs in, covers themselves up and prays this season never occurs…#FTMF!!
Don’t hold back tell us what you really think of the Gayturds!
It’s a tie between Texas and Ole Piss. Why should I believe it’s different this time? I don’t.
I think its UF and Bama. UF has to be hoping that Lagway shows so much promise that they don’t ball it all up, shit can it and start over. They have to hope for some sustained stability. Bama has to hope that “death star” isn’t the only way to win big in cfb. That coach’s record is impressive. Has to be some sort of Erk-factor going on there where he gets kids to play above their heads a bit. Is that enough? They’re hoping so. As the roster is still quite good they may actually improve. I think they had gotten sloppy over there. OL can’t count. QB/center exchange was a mess. They had gotten so used to just letting star qb’s and a flock of deer like creatures do it all that they had gotten a bit soft. It was a tad stale. We brought out their best effort but otherwise, meh… With the same roster and new energy they could thrive. How long it lasts if they do? Gotta out recruit CKS. Won’t be easy. I see texas as confident not hopeful. Everyone else has to be worried about whether they can maintain their position. OK, OM, UT have to be thinking: will we be after thoughts or players in this new world? TBD.
Spot on Bama. My Bama friend was more concerned with the loss of J Robb. Bama is going to be find until Saban’s guy leave but recruiting will diffidently suffer afterward. Texas scares me, they have the oil money, good coach and good players. Like A&M but without the retarded coach. UF is looking forward to a solid 7-5 as a sign Billy is progressing.
“It was a tad stale.”
Maybe a sad tale?
Tooth Nation is most “hopeful” in this sense. They want to believe Heupel has the secret sauce to knock us off the pedestal even though we have slapped them down like a South Georgia gnat the last 3 years. They believed in Hooker. They hoped for Milton. They are desperate with Nico.
What they haven’t figured out is that we have fully flipped the script on them from the 90s. We’re more physical and tougher along the lines of scrimmage. They didn’t dominate us in the 90s because of Heath Shuler, Peyton, and Tee Martin. They dominated because they were miles better than we were across the lines.
Exactly, and they did that with a lot of recruits from Georgia. Arrrgh.
Agree on ole miss. They are built on hope every years and that has only ratcheted up since Lane’s arrival. If not now, when is the question he will face.
do not confuse usc”s delusion with hope.
Tenn is a good answer, but I think they are a year or at least an upset win with the new QB away from full throttle. The only real 2024 answer is Ole Miss. They get their best opponent at home and dodge Bama. This will be Lane’s best defense but will the culture come together with so many mercenary portal guys?
uf and aubrun wallowing in hopelessness is a good thing. The thought of Kirbs grinding them under his boot heel again gives me the warm fuzzies.
#fuckthosemotherfuckers
If the question is who is relying the most on hope, the answer is obviously Vanderbilt. They have nothing else on which to rely or depend. If we’re talking about contenders for the title (which are UGA, Texas, Bama, Tenn, Mizzou, LSU and Ole Maid), then it’s Tennessee. Brand new QB, no running game to speak of, no elite defenders, maybe 2 good OL. Hope Heupel can scheme up enough wins to get to 9 wins to stay relevant! Texas is good, people. Bama has a crapload of talent and a good (albeit brand new) staff. Mizzou only has to hope their new transfer RB can replace what Schrader did and they’ll win 10 games with that schedule no problem. LSU can’t be worse on defense with that talent and they’re in good hands on offense. Kelly is also a good coach. Completely unlikeable, but good. Ole Maid is loaded for bear with new defensive talent and an experienced QB and great offensive play-caller. Tennessee can only hope having Bama at home in year 1 under DeBoer can get them that 9th win. And still out of the SECC. Good luck, Lulu and Junior.
hope is not a sound strategy
10rc and ole piss have bathed in the 2024 skunk infused eau-de-toilet bubble bath soap
Kirby and his tenaciously unwilling to yield group of Dawgs is about to fuck up all those motherfuckas that get in their way
Ole Miss fans think they are a lock for the CFP. Some even think that Georgia will be lucky to leave Oxford with a win.
If we show up in Oxford like we did last year in Athens, we’ll maul them just as we did just as ‘23. I think Kirby likes Junior personally but is pissed because everyone gives Kiffykins all the credit for taking the Alabama juggernaut to dynasty.
I’m just wonder which version of Hope we’re dating this year
This entire series was genius for years, but the final one was legit cinematic genius:
