Georgia’s first pick up in the portal is a former North Oconee kid coming back after three years.

Welcome home…and let’s hope this strengthens the secondary. Now go get some trench warriors, too!

  1. Load up on defensive linemen and receivers. And I think we need another good running back.

  2. Edge rusher is the largest need. WR and DB are next. OT could jump to the top of the list depending on Greene and Freeling.

    • I think Greene is gone if his grade is first 2 days. His family needs the money.

      Freeling should come back, but a day 2 grade probably moves him, too. I believe this is his first year as a full-time starter.

      • Understanding roster management, injuries and the sec schedule, does UGA football have the right position o-line or does UGA football have peeps that plug n play and you pray it all works out…never thought Mr. Drew Bobo was a true center, is the current left tackle a true left tackle, if not, it’s very hard to play to UGA football strengths…Yesssir the “Pittboss” to the Classic City, whether he likes it or not…GO DAWGS!!

  3. We aren’t going to pay for top tier linemen on either side of the ball unless it’s someone we recruited who just isn’t happy where he is.

    • That’s really dumb. At some point UGA will have to start spending a lot of money whether they want to or not if they want to really be good.

      • The question is how many top tier linemen are in the portal and are an upgrade over the talent you have. The edge player we grabbed from the portal this year made zero impact after coming in with some fanfare.

        I’m not saying, “Don’t use the portal.” I’m saying, “Use it for players you believe are an upgrade to your talent base and a fit culturally.” Those are the players we have to be willing to pay up for.

        • Yep. Between worrying about guys in the portal being a prima donnas OR not as good as guys you have or can recruit OR is he asking for more than he is worth to us, I agree that you have to be very selective in the portal.

          Do we have a need? Is this guy a sure thing upgrade/day 1 starter at the position? Is he willing to sacrifice dollars today for championships and NFL $ later? And finally do we care if the guy he is replacing hits the road?

          Which makes me wonder what this guy Clemville guy is coming in to do. Is it star? Is it opposite #4? Is he really, really good?

          As georgia fans we’re going to have to get used to the idea that our shopping needs are different than at Vandy or Indiana because there they have more obvious needs and improvements over HS recruits than we have.

          There are a bunch of young guys on this team (or who are coming in now) that we haven’t even seen, but the coaches have.

          • I think Barnes is coming in to play opposite Bolden. I don’t believe he was playing star/nickel corner at Clemson. I don’t know if he had a Georgia offer coming out of North Oconee, but he has been productive in the upstate.

          • Interesting. I thought Thomas played pretty well there when called upon. Jones will be back right?

            Seems to me the star position has more needs.

  4. I’d like to see Tech’s WR Canion sign with us. He’s good and it will mess with the nerds.

    Texas has their top 4 RBs in the portal. Baxter and Wisner are good and we should give one of them a look.

  5. I trust Kirby. He’s made it clear he won’t sign a kid looking for a paycheck but he does fill needs. Eitienne was a great addition 2 years ago, both Branches this year. My guess is he’ll stack the OL and DL with 3*s for depth. He’ll get a proven edge rusher if available but there just may not be one. WRs and DBs have to fit his “hit first, make plays after” philosophy. I’m guessing Kirby would not grab a modern day Deion Sanders. Overall I’m not expecting more than 5-6 portal additions with starter potential. With the expanded SEC schedule and playoffs, depth is really going to matter in our conference. The B1G, however, can continue to try having an All Star mercenary team win it all with their schedules. Long term, kids may opt out of the work hard model the more easy money is sloshing around and 3-4 loss teams make it to the playoffs. Kirby’s value proposition will take a hit.

    And that’s why fresh coaching changes will be needed as well. The world is changing and you can’t afford to sit still.

    • Methinks coaching continuity is a big selling point amongst the “hard work” crowd.

      Mercenary players and mercenary coaches are birds of a feather. So are the types of people who want to fully buy into a football program.

      • Ridiculous. We have constant turnover among the staff. If Schumann or Bobo get hired away does that make their replacement “mercenary”? Challenge for Kirby is to read the tea leaves of when stability breeds staleness. I’m over the Mike Bobo offense, you’re not. Kirby will ultimately decide or Mike or the marketplace will do it for him. I’m sure he’s OC for 2026 and pray the offense averages over 40 per game led by Heisman winner Gunner and wins the playoffs. Hell, let Kirby retire after that and hand the keys to Bobo. Won’t change my opinion that we need to evolve our offensive philosophy and a new OC would help not hurt.

          I haven’t seen anything that allows me to substitute my own judgement for Kirby’s when it comes to staffing.

          You have.

          What that could possibly be is beyond my comprehension and patience given the relative relationship to the sport as between the two combatants.

          The amount of misplaced pride you folks carry along with you must be quite burdensome.

          If Kirby sat me down and said:

          “Tell me what to do with my coaching staff and I will do it” I would respectfully decline and walk away. That you people would refer to your notes is frankly really fucking sad.
