Buster Faulkner decided to head to Gainesville to be a pain in the ass to Georgia defenses, so Brent Key had to find a new offensive hero. Turns out he didn’t have to look long.
Let me say…not scared. I think Kelly peaked a long time ago, and, yeah, he won a ring with tOSU, but they didn’t win because of jaw-dropping offense, to be fair.
This, on the other hand, is a tad worrisome:
Let’s face it, it hasn’t been offense letting Bobby Hill down in Knoxville lately, so this could improve Tennessee a good bit. Too bad they don’t get us next year, as Knowles could be gone after a year and a more lucrative offer.
I wouldn’t hire Chip Kelly. He has proven multiple times now as a head coach and assistant that he wants to be in the NFL and will jump at any opportunity. Chip Kelly with Fech talent doesn’t scare me a bit.
Jim Knowles seems to go wherever there’s a bigger paycheck. He has spent all of 1 year in the SEC (Ole Miss 2003). For being a successful DC, he hasn’t really been on any head coaching lists.
Those are my 2¢, but neither of them have me thinking, “OMG.”
I would say the nice thing is that any success from either of these guys will be fleeting, as they will jump at the next best opportunity (which is sure to come if they have said success)….
Kelly is a non goofy arse Daniel Mullen. He’s the bomb in nowhere-ville developing cast offs and overperforming a program’s history, but put him in a big job, under the spotlight and he’ll to quote Coach30: “Piss down his leg.” Maybe he’s inside the perimeter hoping to catch the eye of the Failing 28-3 Falcons…
ain’t skeered
I think Tennessee’s offense is the problem for their defense. That quick strike offense is also quick 3 and out many times, wearing out the defense. We’ve seen it with all the air raid/hurry up teams. It’s not that they don’t want a good defense. Their offense handicaps their defense.
And defensive talent doesn’t want to go there consistently for this exact reason.
