Chess Playing in the Modern Roster Management Era

Some food for thought. Assuming Georgia beats Tennessee and wins out, it’s likely safe to assume that Georgia is in the CFP. One of the Robinsons has been mysteriously sidelined and some of our other athletes have been mysteriously absent from the field.

Thought for the day: athletes can still play four games and count their season as a redshirt season. Is Kirby holding guys back in hopes of making the playoff, playing them for the final possible four games, and still allow them a redshirt year? If Georgia misses the SECCG but makes the playoffs, a whole new group of athletes could play the entirety of the CFP and still redshirt.

Not saying this is a thing, but a wonder. Discuss.

    • Well then I’m wondering if we’re about to see a few more new faces this weekend. Thanks for the additional insight…saw a post on Twix about it and I was struggling to process what the author was saying.

  1. No. We play our best. We need to accept that we’re not very good and recruiting/ development/ portal selections have just not gone well for a variety of reasons we’ve been discussing.

    • Should all that be true, a very interesting off season will be on the examination table…GO DAWGS!!

    • Totally agree. Given the level of play and lack of talented depth. Kirby is playing everyone he feels can help now. If you’re not playing you’re either hurt or not earning PT.

  2. Or these guys have quit the team and are planning to portal after the season as has been done with others (Bear Alexander for example). However, I expect that if this is the case, Kirby has managed this process to better protect the kids reputation.

In this new world order, it’s hard to really know anything for certain

    • Agreed, hard to tell. I didn’t like seeing Roderick Robinson’s dad giving major props to the Laner on twix after they kicked our asses. I’m really wanting to see what he can do with the rock in his hands >10 times a game, esp in the 2nd half. I love the portal, and I hate it.

  3. So… SDS just posted Beck might be back next yr. 2020 doesn’t count due to everyone getting a free COVID year, and he was under the new 4 game rule for 2021. He can come back next year for his final year.

    • wouldn’t be surprised, if he came out this year – pretty sure he wouldn’t be a 1st rounder, maybe 3rd at best.

if he does come back, I hope they open the competition up. which would probably put the $1.9 mil per in jeopardy…..decisions, decisions.

  4. I was watching the effort from a couple of guys last week and wondering if they aren’t already playing for another team next year.
