Bennett Been It

The worlds biggest asshole – with the exception of Corch Urban Meyer – decided to weigh in this week on one of Georgia’s greats.

“I think there’s two areas that are, probably, going to determine the best teams,” Spurrier said. “Obviously, coaching is important. And then special players. It could be the quarterback but it could be other guys. Georgia won two national championships with Stetson Bennett. So, the quarterback, he needs to be a good player but he doesn’t have to be one of those guys that has to throw for 300 yards every game.”

Wow. What enlightening commentary from what the jorts-wearing troglodytes of Northeast Florida have considered to be the second coming.

In six postseason appearances, Bennett went 5-1, three for over 300 yards four times, and has 19 passing touchdowns to three interceptions and rushed for 3 touchdowns, as well.

And he was named offensive MVP five times.

To be fair, he ain’t lying that Bennett was surrounded by great players and had an otherworldly defense to back him up, but I think I’ll defer to the two trophies before I listen to what Augusta’s famous former coach has to say about Georgia.

By the way, Steve, Stetson has one more natty ring than you do.

FTMFs.

  1. hey Steve – Stetson didn’t Trent Dilfer or Steve Flacco his way to a championship you dumb fuck.
hey Steve – you let Greyson Lambert break you.

  2. I heard the clip. It was clearly a dig at SBIV.

Last time I looked, he passed for 6,900 yards over 2 seasons with 56 TDs against 14 INTs. Other than the number of TDs, Bennett’s last 2 years stack up favorably against Spurrier’s only national championship QB and Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel’s last 2 years.

    Finally, 2 > 1, Stevie.

Go have another Coors Light, you old ball sack.

  3. What does Augusta have to do with Spurrier? He is not from there. Spurrier is and always has been an A-hole.

  4. Spurrier’s cockiness used to get me riled up enough want to punch him in the mouth. Now, when he says this kinda stuff, I think he sounds like a total ass-clown. Whenever he speaks nowadays he’s making a mockery of himself so we don’t have to do it anymore. Fuck that guy.

    • Now, you’re being a bit harsh on the old FU yell leader, true, he may be a real live asshole, but he can’t help hisself, it’s where he shows his inner assholiness is real, not fake, the old ball sack shouts at the top of his limited vocabulary…”Hey, listen to me, i’m an asshole”…now his love for UGA football is about the total and unrelenting success he had vs the good guys…November 5th,1966 still burns him to his soul…alas, it’s what all assholes do, when they got nothing else, take a shot a someone they don’t care for, cause they are better and or more successful than him, stick a mic in an assholes face, you git shit…thought about passing on any commentary…NFW, FUCK THAT MUTHA FUCKER!! today, tomorrow and fo evah!!….GO DAWGS!!

    • I have never understood the hatred towards Spurrier, he talked some with clever quips but not arrogant boisterous idiocracy which is more common with football. He often had valid points and our disney Dawg fan base like to homer hires and a large percentage refuses to accept the failure of those hires. I don’t see this as the shot at Stetson much of the fan base takes it as. I don’t see it as the homered slant of Spurrier saying Stetson wasn’t key. He can still be a key part and not be in the top 1% of QBs.

      • Calling to the upstairs booth, inquiring about the most points ever scored vs UGA football in Sanford Stadium, then making it an offensive movement to eclipse said point total isn’t considered topshelf boisterous arrogance, it’s considered being a real fucking asshole, not to mention, he made it a point of conversation later in FU pressers of this accomplishment, which bordered on pure, unadulterated fucking asshole arrogance…if FU would have achieved that final total with the FU 3rd stringers, ok, UGA football got busted, that wasn’t the case then, not the case now….FUCK THAT MUTHA’ FUCKER!!!!

        • UGA should have hired better staffs. I see it as a snowflake response to getting beat.

          • True dat, on the UGA football staff hiring front, shit otto, old ball sack owned/and or beat UGA football for way to many years, 1997 was mine shining moment, FU then whipped the Dawg shit out of UGA football in’98, you enjoy old ball sacks quips and whatever B.S., he can spew, right, wrong or indifferent he’s still and will always be a quotable asshole…GO DAWGS!!

  5. I think he’s just saying that you don’t have to have a guy who is a top ten pick in the nfl draft or a qb who is going to light up the league to win college football national titles.

Who is the best pro qb who won a college natty?

Off the top of my head I’m thinking maybe Joe Burrow?

The big issue at qb in the college game is to not to be a liability. If you can run the ball, play defense, win special teams, the qb just needs to play within the offense and take what he gets. The teams that have that tend to be the ones who win the big trophies.

As for Bennett, the most impressive moments for me occurred on his last drive vs OSU.

That was NOT game management shit. That was like an out of body experience.

Other than that one he had 1 really bad game, 3 games against clearly inferior opponents where he did the game manager thing very well, and a game where he was pretty bad for the first 50 minutes.

It will be interesting to see if he gets any NFL action this fall. He might. I’m pulling for the guy, but I remain skeptical that he can be effective at that level.

But he is a mutant so who knows?

    • I immediately thought of Burrow too. Joe Namath and Kenny Stabler both won superbowls. Stabler was my favorite coming up, but that was before I started hating Bama.

  6. A quarterback who throws for 175 to 200 yards in the first half and gives his defense a 4 scores lead so that head coach then goes to a “snap the ball for the running play with 2 seconds left on the play clock” strategy will never average 300 yards passing per game.

  7. I don’t care for Spurrier & his rocky attitude. I do love that he speaks his mind. No coach speak.
Having said that, Bennett ‘s record speaks for itself. DGD

  8. Good to know he still hates us the most, enjoy the memories between spoonfuls of tapioca pudding Steve….

  9. I will also say that Stetson Bennett was a better college quarterback than Spurrier in all ways. I am sure that gets his goat as well as hating GA.

  10. Think of how insufferable he would be if he hadn’t coached the “Cocks”. That was just God’s way of kicking him in the nuts.

  11. For his career, Joe Montana averaged 211 ypg passing (not counting playoffs). I guess old Steve would say SF won in spite of Joe instead of because of Joe. Dan Marino’s stats would dwarf Montana, but who has the rings? Last time I checked the QB’s job is to make sure the team wins the game, no run up gaudy statistics.

  12. No post on the big10’s proposal for completion of the “circle of life”, taking us from the most important regular season in sports to the NBA playoffs….

  13. If someone has mentioned this and I missed it, forgive me, but does anyone else really miss Spencer Hall’s “Hatin’ Ass Spurrier” feature? I sure do.
