Something to ponder:
Question – who’s the one team we haven’t played in Athens you’d most like to see at Sanford someday?
Me:

As a reminder, Ohio State cancelled a series in 2020-2021 back in 2012, but we are slated to host them…in 2030.
Wonder if it’ll hold up? Could you imagine Herbie being in Athens for that one?
That series against Ohio State isn’t going to happen given the committee still can’t or won’t understand strength of schedule.
If Texas misses the playoff at 9-3, you’re going to see schools cancel these out of conference games. Everyone will use that opener as the reason but ignore the inexplicable loss to Florida while Napier was a dead man walking.
The committee claims they’re taking SOS into account this year. Their rankings do far don’t reflect that. Let’s see when the final rankings come out.
But I agree, if SOS isn’t considered then all P4 OOC games will go away.
I heard the other day that the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 all require their teams to schedule 1 P4 out of conference game. The only conference to not require it is the B1G. Yet they constantly bitch about how tough their schedules are.
If SOS is considered, the Aggies are #1.
And Notre Dame isnt anywhere near the playoffs.
On the question, I would love to see the Men of Troy or Michigan (because both owe us a return game).
I whole heartedly agree.
When did we play at USC?
You’d think Michigan would want a return trip since we beat them up there.
Just checked. We’ve been to USC three times. Yeah, we owe them a few beatings, but as long as Lincoln Riley is their coach, it will never happen. He won’t show up.
Hands down – Ohio State
I would love to see us put a foot in their arse and one in kurbstreets mouth.
We have been giving it to Kirk pretty good for the past few seasons, there has been a lot of “cheering in the press box” *against us* when he and Chris have been on our games, expect the same Saturday night…
It’s a good question and you’re right..anOSU would be the one…second might be Penn State. Both consistently slobbered over by the Yankee Sports Media.
Nebraska
No desire to let those fans onto our hallowed ground nor us to go the shoe. #FTMF. Bring USC and their song girls. Probably UM and an old grudge game against PSU. Have we had FSU and Miami? Did the Seminoles came to Athens in the 90’s?
Last time we played FSU in Athens was 1964.
Didn’t play them in the 1990’s anywhere. Because they were in another conference, good at football and we weren’t.
I believe Miami came to Athens in the 60’s and beat us.
My dad took me to Grant Field to watch Miami and Ted Hendricks aka “The Mad Stork” kick Tech’s ass back in the late 60’s.
I can’t say I give one fuck about any extra-regional football teams and fans coming to Athens.
I like going to their places and fucking shit up tho.
I’d just as soon treat the buckeyes, wolverines, trojans, nit shits, like the gators.
Not welcome in our town, thank you. Now fuck off!!
A home and home with Tulane wouldn’t piss me off. Any excuse to get back to NOLA is welcome.
Born and raised in LA by a Trojan grad. God and the law school admissions committee intervened and I got the ultimate privilege of going to UGA Law. A long way of saying I’d love to see the Trojans between the hedges.
Can anyone tell me whut time it is in texass….GO DAWGS!!
You know it’s 10 to 9
Sort of related– just saw a stat pointing out that Tex A&M will play their 111th SEC game since joining the conference in 2012. We have played them once. Texas joined last year, and we’re about to play them for the third time.
A 9 conference game- SEC is a gauntlet all by itself. Without SOS being baked into the playoff formula, I’m doubtful we’ll see a lot of big non-con’s moving forward. Abstractly I love the idea of a USC or anOSU coming into Athens, but about the only way that would happen would be as a home playoff game.
I suppose that my list of teams coming to Athens for a home-and-home would be USC, Michigan, Penn State, and Nebraska. Penn State in a white-out game to me would be amazing. Going to Nebraska is bucket list for me. My wife’s family is all from Michigan so it would be fun stuffing their nuts down their throats. And seeing USC in Athens would be awesome. None will happen, of course, outside of a playoff.
I have no desire to host Ohio State nor travel to the Horseshoe. I also have no desire to play Florida State or Miami and definitely don’t want those fanbases in Athens (especially Miami’s).
Speaking of firsts, watching my first round ball game from the Steg on YouTubeTV. Football will be back, too.
