Diamond Dawgs Moving On…

The Diamond Dawgs overcame some strong pitching from Liberty to move on to the Super Regionals, but not before it’s going to cost them an important game 1 suspension of Tre Phelps.

The offensive floodgates finally opened for Georgia when Phelps blasted a two-run homerun, where Phelps was pushed out of the batter’s box by the home plate umpire, which looks odd, then he decided to wave to his parents above the Liberty dugout, which Liberty took offense to and the Liberty head coach immediately came out and started to protest to the home plate umpire.

To be fair, he did turn and wave to the protesting Liberty first baseman, which was enough to get him tossed for taunting, but when Liberty’s head coach was asked what offensive gesture or comment was said, he had nothing.

Of course, Wes got tossed, too. And enter Phelps’ backup, Michael O’Shaughnessy.

I think we might be alright. The attitude was great after the game, after all.

Anyway, the Dawgs will find a familiar foe in the Super Regional, hosting Mississippi State for what should be a fiery rematch. The Bizarro Dogs didn’t like the strike zone in the first season series, which saw the good guys sweep them at the Dude, and the MSU fans have been very, very much butthurt ever since.

See y’all again on Friday, and Go Dawgs!

  1. Go Dawgs!
Isn’t Liberty the school that the burner phone aficionado Freeze rehab-ed his pristine image? Sounds like he left a slimey image and culture there as well.

  2. I thought the antics were excessive – it was a good, hard fought game that was still very much in the balance at that point, no need to do all that in front of the opponent; after he rounds second and is headed towards his dugout he can do (almost) whatever he wants….

    • The taunting is becoming too much. My phone was blowing up from “other SEC fan bases” asking why all the disrespect of the opponent?? Quickly becoming the most hated baseball program in the tourney!

      • I think it was worse last year. Hell, last year he went to bat with his dang shirt half unbuttoned and then acted the same way he did yesterday. I thought Wes had reeled the BS in somewhat from last year. Hopefully this is a wake up call.

  3. Regarding Phelps waving at his parents after being harassed by the Ump (who was a rectal deposit ALL game, btw) and Liberty players; good news everyone, UGA has vacated this season’s regular season championship, the 1990 CWS, and preemptively benched the entire bullpen the rest of the postseason for looking at the field. Also, Todd Gurley II and AJ Green have to stand in front of pitching machines until the ghost of Jan Kemp grades all the Basketball 101 tests. The good news: all the fake Georgia fans that don’t empty their pockets for NIL are at fault.

    • In the “old days” you didn’t want to be the next batter up after antics like that. While the perpetrator would probably be getting drilled his next at bat, you could never be sure that the pitcher didn’t want to go ahead and send an immediate message with you as the recipient. Guys like Bob Gibson would probably have done both.

      • Exactly. The reason why you don’t act like an ass is that it’s the guy behind you that gets the retribution.

      • Ralph Garr of the Braves came to bat once IIRC it was against Bob Gibson. He called timeout and really started digging a good foothold with his spikes. Gibson walked about halfway to the plate and told Garr to dig it deep, I’m getting ready to bury you in it. First pitch he plunked him.

        • “The Road Runner”
I haven’t heard Ralph Garr’s name in a long time. If you remember watching that, then you must be ancient like me.

  4. He looks like an idiot doing all that. Just run the bases and act like you’ve been there. I hate all that showboating and it’s gonna come back to haunt us. Same for when a guy hits a double and stands on second base pounding his chest like he’s Tarzan.

  5. I realize we can lose the next two games, but it was hilarious watching the nerds go from 8-2 up to down 10-8, without registering an out! LOL!
