If you are going to another site for your Dawgs’ content today, make it the guys at Dawg Sports. This defense of the Georgia-Clemson home and home is a magnum opus (Someone needs to send this to Josh Brooks – athdir@uga.edu). The good Senator would be smiling over this if he were with us today.
I’ll say it now. I refuse to purchase tickets to either of these games if they move to a neutral site (yes, I attended both games in 2021 and 2024). I may even decide to hell with it and not even watch the games on television on principle. I get that schools have to look for every revenue stream they can at this point, but the powers that be look at us as nothing but wallets at this point in the name of looking out for what’s best for UGA athletics as opposed to what’s popular to fans.
I carried the ticket stub from 1984 in my wallet for years after that. I wish I had kept it pristine and gotten a signed picture of Kevin Butler kicking the most famous field goal in Georgia history.
If we don’t reject this kind of thinking while still getting OOC games with the likes of Tenn State and WKU in our season ticket packages, we’ll get more of this.
It’s time for these people to feel the economic impact of the decisions they make rather than to tell us they know what’s best for us.
Amen brother. I will not purchase these and did not for 2021 or 2024. It sucks. And now we get to roast at 3 and noon against high school opponents. Add the coming increase in Hartman donations a d they just don’t care. IMO this year will be critical to not only get in the playoff, but to win games or the landscape with long standing season ticket holders will change. WTF (We The Fans) deserve better.
I didn’t love the decision in 21 and 24, but both programs said it up front and then made it clear that the future games would return to campus. I had no problem buying the game in Atlanta.
I detest every one of these moves recently announced. It’s a joke and shouldn’t be necessary.
Well written open letter. The Senator would be proud.
They…don’t…care.
P.S. Dawgsports was a regular hangout for me back when T. Kyle King ran it. His posts were as inspired as The Senator’s. Curious he retired from it and I personally hate the move to SBNation but I wish Macondawg well as one of the last originals from yesteryear.
When they are playing to smaller crowds and the cities aren’t seeing the economic impact of these games, the cities are going to decide not to bankroll these games on behalf of their tourism people.
That’s the only way for fans to fight this. Also, make the decision not to watch these games.
If college administrators want to treat us like eyeballs and wallets instead of customers, the only weapons we have are our wallets and our remote controls.
Unless there is a CFP shift to strengthen of schedule Georgia is only playing Clemson in the post season.
The committee says they do take SoS into account as part of their “criteria.” The problem is the committee is as transparent as a cigar smoke-filled back room where politicians make decisions.
Once again, ADs and coaches hide behind the fig leaves of the blaming the committee for canceling these games.
They also hide behind the fig leaf of Texas’s loss to Ohio State last year. Texas didn’t miss the playoff due to their loss to the Buckeyes. They missed the CFP because they got beat soundly by a Florida team that was home for the holidays and then Kirb-stomped in Athens.
I believe the lie that “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you,” but it’s down to that. The Cruz bill maybe flawed or worse. The IRS might be able to audit enough of the billionaire Texans or the DEA investigate Miami but otherwise the genie is out of the bottle.
