I’ve heard this story before, but mainly heard about the treatment Dwyer received at Tech versus Georgia from the player hosts…but this is the first time I heard that Kirby had been his initial recruiter when he was a RB coach at Georgia, but when he left, the new recruiter for Dwyer…was Mike Bobo.
Makes me wonder how much Bobo is actually involved in recruiting at UGA, ya know? I really, really hope that Hartley is being coached up to become an OC, that way Kirby could have the complete package.
That’s just assuming, and you know what happens when you assume things, though.
I thought Bobo had a reputation as really good recruiter? Especially, back when he was the QB coach. I guess that fell of once he was OC?
The only negative Bobo recruiting story I’ve heard that had any legs was Deshaun Watson. Bobo (and CMR) waited too long to offer, and by that time, Watson was going to Clempson.
Bobo may not have prioritized Dwyer. Sometimes that happens especially if you’ve decided another player at the same position is the guy you really want.
Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes on his part. We were able to “Run this State” without him.
Except for that 2008 game. He and Roddy Jones went off. (And we played 2-hand touch on defense.)
That was more about our defense than his skill set.
Seriously sick of all this revisionist BS “I woulda gone here but X was a shi**y recruiter…..” There are a million things that affect where a kid gets an offer to and where he chooses to go. Who knows, maybe Dwyer decided not to go to Georgia because we were also hard after Knowshon and he knew he wouldn’t get ahead of Knowshon, and this is the just the BS he tells himself so he can try to deflect self-criticism and blame his choices on others rather than taking personal responsibility for them…..

Nick Chubb and Todd both told me that Georgia couldn’t recruit RB’s while Bobo was OC at Georgia.
So weird, I heard the same thing from Caleb King, Keith Marshall and DeAndre Swift…..

I could give two shits about Jonathan Dwyer. We got virtually identical stats out of Knowshom in 2008 and Washaun Ealy and Caleb King in 2009.

I don’t think it’s anything beyond wishful thinking from the fanbase and people who have nothing else to post about. I’d imagine he’s making up for lost time, and from what I’ve seen of his approach to coaching and his style, he would not fit well in a Kirby Smart coaching system.
Hard agree, guy also obviously needs (and has earned) a break from the grind to reset….
