Just Get Better

How does Kirby Smart use the December bowl practice season? Seems easy enough…focus on how you can get better.

Kirby’s got no time for the portal, or your personal desires to get more playing time or money somewhere else. Gotta appreciate how he’s navigated the opt-out era since that infamous 2018 season Sugar Bowl that announced Texas was “baaacck”. Georgia would go on to win seven straight bowl games and two Natties, the streak ending last year against the Irish in the Sugar Bowl.

  1. I believe Kirby changed his view of the drama queen recruits ( Fields,B. Cox, etc) that year. I don’t think he would recruit anyone like those 2 ever again.

      • Curtis didn’t become a drama queen until that comedian started wooing him on College GameDay and the lead douche/drama queen Diego Pavia started hanging around Nashville Christian.

Curtis decommitted the first time because he (and his parents) wanted to do the right thing. He wanted to confirm he was making the right the right decision. He committed the 2nd time and put his head down and worked with his team during the season. He came to Athens I believe for every game except Charlotte.

Has anyone gotten quotes from his parents since his decision? His mom wanted him at Georgia from the word go.

    • The one that changed Kirby’s attitude about attitudes was that running back out of Texas who never made it to campus. And he said so.

Zack Evans I believe is the kid’s name.

  2. Hold on there, do believe Fields was a decent recruit, Jaiden was a regular on the line up card and could go yard at any given moment….GO DAWGS!!

  3. Kirby’s attitude is “Yes, you need players and a lot of them to win, but there’s something else now … you better have culture and love for your teammates to win big.” If you don’t love football, don’t come to Georgia.

Ellis Robinson is a perfect example. He comes in as a big time recruit but needs to transform his body. Scott Sinclair is there. He plays some his freshman year, and “ball knowers” are asking where is he. The rumors fly at the end of the season that he’s going to leave. He worked hard and got his chance to play this year. No doubt he struggled early. The “ball knowers” are calling him a bust. He keeps working. Now? He’s our best DB and probably going to be a pre-season All-American in 2026.

    Trust the Process.

    • Totally agree. Kirby recruits a certain mentality. He wants talent, but that talent has to want hard work, competition, and physicality. He has been selling that in his press conferences when he basically said, ” we don’t want pu$$ies at Georgia.” And the “We want to schedule them” speech.

Ryan Williams could never play at Georgia. He is not mentally tough enough. I am interested to see if Isaiah Gibson makes it at Georgia. He is from my area and I have heard his attitude may not be a good fit for the culture at UGA. He was only 12, but he, ReSean Dinkins, and Isaiah Canion (WR at GT) were on my son’s 12U bball team. Dinkins was a little defensive junkyard dawg and Canion was a grin on his face battling every play kind of kid on the court. Gibson was bigger than the coaches, but was pouty and went through the motions for the most part. Hopefully he has grown up since then, but I have heard he wasn’t very dominant at Warner Robins and still had attitude issues in high school. Hope I am wrong ,but am afraid he is just a physical specimen and a lot of hype. I’m rooting for him to prove my views to be wrong for sure.

    • I think a testament to the Georgia Way can be found in the transfers, too. Branch found his groove and it’s not on special teams like everyone said, he’s become the master of the screen pass and YAC. McCray comes in as a short yardage bulldozing back, not a feature back, and suddenly we have a fullback again. Thomas was a ghost early in the season and came on late. Even Young had to bide his time and made the most of it. Humphrey could’ve had more catches at Vandy, most likely. They came in to play a role and in the end they’re wearing rings and hoisting trophies. Guys like that want to come play with guys like that. They know what the practices are like, what the standard is like, and they sign up for it. They know they’re going to get developed and win games and they’ll be featured in the biggest games in the biggest stage. It takes a certain mentality to play for Kirby Smart or else Kirby don’t want you. I’m all for it.

      • Humphrey has become so physical since becoming a Bulldawg. His pro prospects have gotten so much better than would be if stayed at Vandy.

      • Excellent explanation for why many want to come to UGA. You left out the fact that they will be developed and prepared for success at the the next level as well. (as much as their natural abilities will allow them to have)

  4. If you predict that a certain percentage of really good players want to be coached hard and love football. If you think mixing in some overlooked, but motivated players and you can win championships, why would you spoil these guys and try to be their buddies? Especially now that they are being paid.

    Why not try this instead?

“Do any of you ladies know who Jack Tatum was?”

  5. Kirby seems to have a legit edge to him right now. Feels like he is about to make a statement like he did in the Florida state game

    • Last season I never felt like it was a championship caliber team. I think Kirby knows this team has the correct mix of mentality and ability to win it all. That’s a truly rare breed and the look on Kirby’s face tells me he’s seeing its very possible for this bunch. Every championship team needs a little too go your way. Kirby knows the harder we work the luckier we can be.

  6. Kirby just gets it, he really does. No other coach in the game has a way of cutting through the BS and distilling down what really matters the way he does.
