Lea Went to Jared

Gotta give the kid credit where credit is due…

After reading it, I can only wish him good luck. Keeping it at home and believing in the underdog is a bit of a Rudy story coming true.

Besides, we’ve got Year 2 of Gunner coming up and it want likely that a five star quarterback was going to see the field for some time, anyway. It also hasn’t really worked out for former five star QBs in Athens to this point, so more power to him.

If it’s any consolation, here’s a peak into next year’s roster.

Something tells me we’ll be okay.

  1. You figured this was coming, Kirby is just not a #1 QB kind of coach. Stats & individual glory is just not in his DNA. The biggest thing for Curtis seems to be immediate playing time & CKS isn’t giving the keys to anyone he doesn’t trust yet.

    • If he stayed and did see the field next year, he’d probably just be pissed that all he got to do was hand the ball off.

  2. The ‘Admiral’ has to come to Athens next season. I predict pain is in his future. 🤕

    • Yeah, Kirby’s recent response of “We schedule them…” about players that transfer away from UGA rings loudly here. I don’t think Kriby will want vengeance for a perceived slight, but I can imagine him wanting to back up his words with action on that game.

    • I was pulling against Vandy becasuse of the BS Diego won in court and amzingly Vandy has a QB that is a punk.

  3. This kid has left us high and dry at the last minute, with no chance to get another QB in this class. I won’t be pulling for him at all and hope he fails miserably.

    • Yep. He planned to surprise everyone, including our coaching staff, with his flip at the hat ceremony. Instead, word got out, Kirby unfollowed him on social media and (rumor is) kicked him out of the signing class group chat. Word on X is that our other kids found out when they noticed he had been dropped. Fuck him. Hope he breaks his leg. It’s one thing to change your mind, but to do it this way was just damn dirty Pavia shit. He had claimed ignorance on X just hours before it all leaked (theory is we leaked it) and later posted that he going to Vandy.

      • Why would we leak it? That just makes no sense (not saying you, dude). I saw that accusation yesterday.

An agent, a friend, a Vandy NIL booster (that comedian), or Pavia himself probably did.

The fact they have closed his signing ceremony looks bad.

        • I doubt our staff wanted the top recruit to choose Vandy over us in front of all CFB on signing day. Also, we would want to cut him off from our other recruits as much as possible. It probably is not true, but I can see lots of reasons why to do it.

          • I don’t think any Georgia staffer leaked it. A recruit may have told someone that Curtis was no longer in the group chat.

What I’m guessing happened is that Kirby probably had assurance from the Curtis family that he was signing when the dead period started on Sunday night. He probably even had a couple of texts to Curtis on Monday and early Tuesday that he was signing. When Curtis called on Tuesday to say he wasn’t coming, I can’t imagine Kirby went easy on him to say congratulations and best wishes.

I don’t have access to any pay sites on this, so all of this is my speculation.

          • My guess is it was a recruit. And I’m fine with it. There are no rules, and clearly no honor, in recruiting. FTMF. We have Gunner, 2 blue chip backups, and an elite QB likely to reclassify to 2027 waiting in the wings.

    • I admit I’m surprised this happened. His parents (especially his mother) have wanted him at Georgia since the beginning. I know they’ll say they support the decision he has made, but I can’t help but think they have to wonder if he’s going to get his brains beaten in.

      • Understanding peeps change their minds, this ain’t CKS’s first crootin’ trip, if CKS/staff got a whiff of this fart blossoms waffling two weeks ago/last week, look for CKS/staff to step up the flip switch on another QB recruit signing with UGA football…GO DAWGS!!

    • 100% this. I don’t give a damn if he prefers Vandy over GA. But to do it this way… f him. I hope he fails miserably at every level. I hope he’s unhappy and regrets his decision and the way he made it ever single day of his life.

  4. The only thing I don’t get about him choosing Vandy is the offense. He is supposedly an NFL prospect at QB. You mean to tell me Vanderbilt is redesigning it’s scheme away from the option/RPO scheme they currently use and the Curtis camp trusts that staff can develop him for the NFL in a new scheme they aren’t used to running? Seems softly risky.

Other than that I get the hometown hero thing and don’t feel like he did Georgia dirty. The Vanderbilt story and the momentum they have has to be attractive especially when Curtis plays just down the road. Just seems like a bad or risky decision to base your future on a huge shift in offensive philosophy for those coaches.

    • It’s the initial decision to wait until the last signing day to flip, surprise and troll Georgia fans that’s the dirty part. I’m glad he was outed. Now we can move on and welcome him properly to Athens next year.

    • Didn’t do Georgia dirty? Flipping with one day before signing day is pretty damn dirty. It leaves us with NO QB signing for this class. Now, do we need one, probably not, but some kid may have had a chance to sign that really wanted to be at Georgia but wasn’t recruited because his commitment.

  5. As long as we never see last week’s Gunner again, we’ll be alright. Woof!

  6. Another drama queen like Raiola. BTW don’t hold your breath on Greene and Freeling playing college football next year.

    • Vandy’s historic season is based on the most Upperclassmen on a roster in the SEC. Also, all the BranchCovidian Refugees have aged out. One thing I’ve always liked about this community is an understanding of regressing to the mean. That being said a hometown boy taking his lumps until he gets that Junior season bump with a bunch of guys he grew up with might pay off down the road.

  7. Kirby’s (and Coach Dooley, come to think of it) trophy case is filled with games won by Georgia Country Boy QBs.

    • This! Go full court press on the top two peach state QBs each year, regardless of how many stars are next to their names.

  8. All that mentoring from Pavia has paid off. Does this joker realize that Pavia’s mentor is Johnny Manziel? Good riddance.
Again I go back to Kirby’s quote « I want guys that want to be a Dawg »
Vandy and Pavia sold him on « we will center the O and the team around you »… and Kirby doesn’t have time for that shit.
He will experience a lot of pain when the dores roll into Athens next year. I am sure Kirby hasn’t forgotten or won’t ever forget their chicken shit antics during covid.

  9. The missing part of his post is how much money they overpaid him to flip. I have no issue with going where he wants and taking what he can get. I have an issue with him jerking our staff around for two years and flipping when it is too late for us to recruit a comparable QB to fill his slot or allocate his NIL piece to other recruits. Its a shit move from an immature young man.

    • Money wasn’t a factor. If it was he would have gone to Oregon. They offered significantly more than either Georgia or Vandy. It was all about playing sooner.

  10. “Seeing what Vandy has been doing this season has been amazing….” Has he been living under a rock the last 10 years? Smart has been stacking trophies, getting national attention every season, and putting guys in the NFL and this guy is excited about Vandy’s FIRST 10 win season ever? Just say it’s about the money. It’s either that or he doesn’t want to compete. Nothing about Vandy is “amazing”.

  11. I would have worried about Curtis coming from a small private school and the level of competition he faced. I don’t know anything about Tennessee HS football, thank heaven, but if it’s like a lot of places, a private school with about 750 kids is going to face similar schools. I would worry that he’s another Brock Vandagriff. Not to say that he couldn’t grow into a great QB (Curtis, not Vandagriff), but that he’s very likely to have some deer in the headlight moments. Heck, that’s even happened to the greatest QB to ever play the game this year with the Austin Cows.

    • I have family near Nashville. High School football up there is like Pop Warner compared to what we see around the state in GA or north FL. This kid is balling out at a small Christian school against a bunch of no-stars a la Arch Manning. I doubt he looks good for another 2-3 years.

    • He got scared…it happens at that age. Dealing with Kirby, being among the elite AT PRACTICE, and the fans of DawgNation are intimidating. At Vandy the bar is lower, Coach friendlier and he can run home nightly to Mama. NIL money will secure his future as he is not destined for the NFL should he stay at Vandy.

Don’t hate him, thank him. We aren’t wasting a roster spot on a kid where the moment would be too big. When and if needed, plenty of top QBs will come portaling to us.

      • Agreed. He wasn’t playing at Georgia for a couple of years, at least. We have Gunner with Pugs and Montgomery backing up/learning. I trust Bobo to develop them.

I don’t wish the kid anything bad. He’ll get that on his own.

      • NIL money will secure his future along with a degree from Vanderbilt maybe. Worth something!
Also, if he is going to a Nashville private christian school, there’s already some money around him somewhere.

  12. Anyone able to read the responses to his tweet… err… X? I hope they’re giving him the most miserable hell he’s ever experienced. Is that petty? Yep. Is what he did to UGA shitty? Also yep.

  13. Does it suck? Yeah, I guess. I just really can’t get too worked up over the whims of an 18 year old.

    • I respect that, and I mostly feel the same way. It’s my passion for the Dawgs and the lurch he left the program in that rubs the wrong way for me here. I could care less if the young man prefers Vandy over UGA. But how he went about it, that’s another matter, imo. But, as always YMMV.

  14. Yep it doesn’t seem that we can recruit a top QB that wants to sit and learn. No worries; there plenty of serviceable arms that can be turned into decent college QBs; this ain’t the NFL yet…much more concerned to keep Pugs and Montgomery…

  15. I stopped caring or putting any faith in the decision-making of 17-year olds a long time ago – and that was before the NIL/transfer portal nonsense. If you want to come to UGA, then come. If not, then in the wise words of Logan Roy, “fuck off” and have a nice life.

  16. I get WHY he flipped, but for him to get angry for his flip to be outed? Why? If you know, put it out there. Call the coaches, tell them and then post it. Easy peasy. Was he wanting to make a production of his commitment like so many do? If so, I have no respect for that type of high school drama.
