Allow Me to Retort

I can hear Samuel L. Jackson as I type that. Regarding Dan Lanning’s pot shot to SEC scheduling, here’s some fine numbers to consider.

If Lanning isn’t careful, he may soon have another analyst job in Kirby’s staff in Athens. Can’t say that he’s accomplished all that much in his time at Oregon, even with their Charmin-soft scheduling and massive recruiting payrolls.

I guess that’s what happens when you’re listening to the Dead and enjoying too much west coast lettuce…or maybe something else.

And that was after beating Penn State, people.

  1. When you no longer bite with the big dawgs, you bark like a lil one, bless his heart.

  2. He was a great Dawg coach & just spilling out the BIG10 line, just like all coaches. Riley & Franklin avoided the SEC like a plague.
    They all know the truth.
Other than facing Georgia, wish him the best.

    • And that committee B.S. is what will displace UGA football at the current #4 ranking, UGA football lost by 3 to a 10th ranked team, the sitting ducks lost by two to a 10th ranked team, making the two point loss a better loss, not the Fucking “W”s vs ranked teams…UGA football must bring their Conan to the game vs the north avenue Fucking trade school….”To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women”…GO DAWGS!!

  3. All this vitriol towards Dan Lanning is very odd, and frankly insecure.

    • Remains a close confidant and peer with Kirby—CKS respects him. What greater endorsement do you need?

    • He was a great D Coordinator for UGA. A GREAT coordinator.
    • He was a GREAT recruiter for UGA
    • He’s clearly politicking for his team with the CFP committee when he said those comments. Anyone thinking he’s taking potshots at the SEC needs to raise their level of awareness…or not post their immature understanding of how this CFP beauty pageant works.
    • Lanning has won many big games at Oregon. He split with Ohio State just last year. Sure he lost to natty champion UGA in his very first game in 2022 in MBS, and the same Washington team twice in ‘23—a UW team that lost in the natty—but I know another coach that can’t beat Kalen Deboer either…
    • More to the point, his teams compete well and play close in big games (as graded by ranking at time of the game) and has won 2/3rds of those games
    • Also to the point, he keeps his team operating at a high level against lesser opponents (as graded by performance efficiency). Those accomplishments alone put him nearly on par with Ryan Day and ahead of every other Big 10 coach
    • He’s a fantastic leader of men: he’s an inspirational speaker, gets results, garners respect from others, and has a well-oiled process in place.

If I was to want a coach after Kirby, Lanning would be my choice 10x out of 10. And I’m sure many of you feel the same.

    • I’m with you on this one. I like the guy, did great things at UGA, his players love him, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the next Alabama coach (so we can re-evaluate then…ha) plus the things you mentioned. His problem now is that there’s only a couple coaches out there who don’t need to loudly politick, and fortunately we’ve got one of them.

  4. With a 12 team playoff, this whole argument is absolutely stupid imho.

Also, so far the bye is almost a penalty, as the teams with byes show up rusty and cold.

I wish they would play the 9/12, 10/11 games right after the conference championships games, then give everyone their couple of weeks off for Xmas, and then have the “real” 8 team playoff.

    Then everyone is equally fresh/cold/rusty.

Anyway, with 12 teams, stop crying.
