Not sure if any of you follow Davin Bellamy’s break downs of Georgia games. While I can’t say anything to the “is it better or worse than so and so’s” it’s certainly an opinion, and one that’s guided from a guy who has been in the arena.
One of Bellamy’s issues from the Alabama game was noted here:
Cash is one of those small percentage graduate players on Georgia’s team. There aren’t many his age and experience on the team, but with the proliferation of youth on the team, as well, is that “chemistry” and fight what’s missing? Would this explain the late responses to adversity, or the slower starts?
Of course, Bellamy still provided some optimism in his analysis. One thing he points out is that youth has to grow up fast, and let’s hope that some growing pains from last week yields growth in performance this week.
Go ‘Dawgs.
Scared. Moment too big. Pissed down their leg.
Swagger, cockiness, toughness, and a “fuck you I will fucking end you right here” attitude, can never be overemphasized in football.
See pregame coin toss Miami vs. Oklahoma circa 1986.
I hope Davin comes in to give a speech.
I remember the early play vs the Gators in 2008 when that bad ass ILB for the Gators blasted Knowshon and told him about it on the ground.
When no one responded…it’s over.
I am not arguing for a bunch of fights, flags and ejections. Gotta keep it between the lines, but they gotta know we ain’t the kind to fuck with.
Where’s Odell Thurman when you need him?
Forget Odell, that’s ancient history and there are much more recent examples. Guys like Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, Nolan Smith, Pop, Smael. They were just here and all played with that nastiness.
I just remember Odell in particular being sent away for a year. The rumor I heard is that someone annoyed him in the weight/locker room and… mmmm regretted it…
I remember calling the year he came back “The Odell Thurman Anger Management Tour.”
I listened to Bellamy last night when I got off work, it was very interesting. Totally agree there is something missing from the defense & maybe it is the fight. His example of Cash getting laid out on Bama’s sideline & several tide players standing over him yapping, followed by our team just going back to the huddle is concerning. That pissed Davin off. No one backing up their brother is an issue. Earlier Kirby teams might have been in a brawl in that situation, at the least running over & jumping over your teammate. That kind of fight is not due to youth, you see it at all levels of play. Maybe we’ve got more problems than just needing to grow up.
I believe players should have a little bite in their attitude as long as it doesn’t lead to stupid decisions. What bothers me more is this description of our current team from ESPN: “… the personification of the Georgia program as a whole: clearly talented, pretty good at everything and not necessarily elite at anything.” I’m sorry to say the statement is a lot more accurate than I’d like it to be.
Sounds like a Richt team.
I’ve been saying this is a young team. Devoid of upperclassmen capable of real leadership. No matter how vocal a Cash Jones type is he’ll never be an alpha team leader.
We just don’t have those game changing players. Real ALPHA Dawgs like Nick Chubb, Nakobe Dean or Jalen Carter who lead by taking souls and wrecking dreams with their personal performances. They could get in your face and demand you DYJ and it resonated. Not a single player on this team inspires fear by the opposition.
It’s NIL and coaching also a little luck getting the right recruits. The days of stacking players 3 deep waiting to play is over. NIL and the portal killed the Kirby and Saban advantage.
Yeah we have lots of talent some might even become game wreckers. As of today there is no reason to fear Georgia like there has been recently.
Think this is the third former Dawg to call this team out. Do they know enough about football to be permitted to be critical? Asking for a friend. 😉
Yes , yes they do.
Are they calling for coach’s heads or pointing out what the players need to be doing?
Critical of both. I think people have a right to comment on their observation of a game that isn’t overly complicated, regardless of whether they played coached at the college or pro level. It’s pretty silly to me how angry people get about this.
What former player is being critical of the coaches? I’d be interested in what they are saying.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Including an opinion about an opinion. No one is entitled to being immune from other folk’s opinions including about their own opinion.
Agreed, it’s the way some attack people for opinions that I find ridiculous.
Stinchcomb is a former player critical of Searels. Murray as well.
Pollack is critical in a specific way, talking about slow starts going back a year are on the coaches, and in a general way, saying as successful programs’ coordinators move on (Lanning, Monken, Pittman, etc.), lesser talents replaces.
Upon further review….
Watched the reply. Cash would have scored but our freshman tackle badly missed his block. However the play setup was chaos. Should have gotten a measurement and put Bowens in. The real killer though is next series we were 15 yards away from being in Woodring’s range to tie the game with 4+ min to go. Quick screen to Colbie for no yards. Two more missed passes and we punt never to see the ball again. So what’s the common thread? We ignored the back with the hot hand in our two most critical scoring chances. Mike…we need to have a talk.
