Am I the only one who has been a little weary of the amount of off-season or practice injuries our team seems to have endured,

Well, sounds like we weren’t the only ones, and now it’s noted that there are some upgrades on the horizon that might quell the tide of practice injuries in the future.

“What does it mean to football? For us, we’re one of only two programs in the SEC that do not have natural grass football fields side by side,” Smart said at the 2023 UGA athletics board spring meetings.

“We have an indoor (football) facility that’s state of the art, but it is a turf field and it is beside our grass field.”

Smart pointed out UGA spent $1.36 million sodding and re-sodding its one grass practice field from February of 2022 to February of 2023.

“We’re on it continuously,” Smart said. “Why do we want to practice on grass instead of turf? It’s safer.”

As the article states, the Track and Field Teams will get a new facility over on the softball side of town off South Milledge, which will add some parking and an additional grass field next to Butts Mehre.

Kind of hard to believe that Georgia was behind other programs in an element of facilities, but at least Smart and Brooks are on the mother.

  1. Yeah the practice injuries have been annoying as hell. Last season it was just hideous.

    • Makes me wonder if the “nobody practices as hard as Georgia” narrative might have us over-throttled. Hard nosed North Merican Tackle Football practices are a must, but we don’t need everyone dying at Thermopylae every Tuesday

  2. I love going to Spec Towns and running on the track. Hopefully the new one on South Milledge will have the same access if not great scenery.:)

    • Yeah, like the Pool in the Space Center training in the same facilities as Olympians is good for a lil extra motorvation.

  3. Georgia football is land locked in the current location. The indoor took away a field. The new football facility took away another field. The track takeover will give them back what they lost. Turf sucks. The baseball field should be grass and dirt.

  4. I always heard the blame laid on the Nike shoes. Not just us, either. Seems like I read of at least one school switching to Addidas. Or maybe that’s was a move made for$$$ considerations.

    • We should move away from Nike just because of that stupid dog logo they’ve inflicted on us.
