Thursday Thought Provoker: Stepping Up

A few items to get the juices flowing:

And…

For today’s thought provoker…who do you foresee having a breakout season, a comeback season, or who needs to step up the most for the ‘Dawgs in 2025?

I need Greene and Freeling to have breakout seasons, Robinson to have a comeback season, and Jordan Hall/Christen Miller to step up. Just my humble opinion.

Discuss.

  1. Robinson still looks too slow to play RB in the SEC if you ask me. Bobo should use him as a FB in the I-Formation with Frazier or Bo Walker in back. My prediction for breakout star…Zachariah Branch. He is gonna take some punts to the house and burn some asses on the slant route.

      • Thank you, EE. I was shaking my head going, “This dude wants us to run an I formation with a fullback? People are amazing. Gotta be a troll.” Can you imagine the screaming about Bobo if we did that? Good night.

    • I saw him catch a wheel route and out run everyone for about a 70 yard td last August before he got hurt.

    • Yep, this is it. And I think they will. Also think the LBs will be hell on wheels.

I hope Robinson comes back fully healthy for us, and for him. I don’t know if he’s slow or not, but I think he can be a great battering ram for wearing down opponents’ defenses. I’d love to see him on a 90 yard “death march” drive lasting 10 minutes to put the final nail in Bama’s coffin.

  2. Tackle play … on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

In the Ole Miss and ND games, we got lousy OT play. Throughout the year, the DTs weren’t consistent run-stoppers we’ve come to expect.

If these are fixed/improved, this team can achieve all of their end of season goals.

  3. I hope our offense is a breakout player and scores more than once during the first half of ball games.

  4. Man, I’m hoping Bobo has a killer season…I’m talking Drew at center…the entire O line needs to show up every game, but Bobo Jr. has to be the linchpin of that entire line…so I’m pulling hard for him to be a standout center

  5. Seems like who we need the most to have a breakout season is Stockton. QB is the most important position on the field. Like Dillon Bell to have a comeback season, I thought he was going to be better last year. Maybe Delk to Step UP!

  6. I need both the OL and DL to collectively step up. LOS was our primary failing last year (yes, even more the WR drops). We couldn’t run the ball and we didn’t stop the run nearly as well as vintage teams. Fix that, and I have no concerns about any other positions.

  7. Great to see something on Robinson. His name hasn’t been mentioned at all when the RB room is being discussed. Hope he can finally have a healthy productive season after two injury plagued seasons. He did catch some balls against Tech, but other than that he has been invisible the past two seasons.

He had some good runs against TCU in LA and would be another nice power option.

  8. This team is no different from any football team. If we get great performance from our offensive and defensive lines we will be extremely hard to beat. If we don’t we won’t be. Football is a simple game. It’s won and lost up front. Ever seen an elite team with weak offensive and defensive lines? Nope. You can be average everywhere else and if you’re elite up front you will win just about always.

  9. A QB is only as good as his OL. RBs can’t run if there aren’t holes and WR won’t get catchable balls if the QB doesn’t have time in a clean pocket. Likewise, LBs and CBs are more free to make plays if the DL is altering offensive game plans. There is only one answer to this question – gotta be both OL and DL.

  10. I’d say Stacy Searles needs to step his a$$ up. Our OL play has plummeted under his tutelage. If the OL doesn’t step up this year, I’d be looking for another OL coach. And yes, these are HIS OL recruits.
    LB’s, DE setting the edge.
