The Importance of Being Earnest

I have to admit that I questioned Earnest Greene a pretty good bit over the past couple of seasons. At many times he seemed lost, tired, or just plain bad. But, it’s another year, another season, and, at least with the stats and grades, he’s been doing a good job at Left Tackle.

This is Earnest Greene (Number 71), pictured celebrating with Zachariah Branch after Georgia’s win against Tennessee. Picture is from 2025, since Georgia hasn’t played Tennessee this year, and since Branch is now a receiver with the NFL Franchise the Atlanta Falcons. This is Neyland Stadium, as evidenced by the orange and white checkerboards and the white jerseys/red helmet combination that is traditionally won when the Dawgs are on the road.

On the season, Greene has allowed two quarterback pressures and zero sacks. To get to the more granular level, PFF has him graded at 82.9, which is 7th in the nation for Tackles, and while his pass blocking grade of 81.9 is 32nd in the nation, his run blocking rating of 81.4 is good for 8th in the nation.

Although it’s a short body of work and, admittedly, against not the greatest of defenses, Greene is outperforming Monroe Freeling, last year’s Left Tackle, who scored a 71.4 and was 79th in the nation overall (10th in pass blocking, but 248th in Run Blocking).

Hopefully, Greene will continue to be a strength for Gunner’s blind side and for road grading guys for the run game with a rapidly depleting running back room, and this grade will still hold true after this weekend’s tilt with Alabama.

  1. In his defense, he played a lot of games the past couple of seasons with basically one functioning arm. They couldn’t really sit him because he was still their best option there. Part of that can be attributed to the mediocre recruiting of Matt Luke; who is now working the same magic at Clemson.

  2. I like the over-explanation caption for the photo after recent suggestions that more context be added to pictures on the blog. Nice what you did there. Hahaha.

    • Yes, was going to mention as well. Heavy snark is palpable. Heaven forbid you & “the staff” don’t provide enough context on a free blog where you bust your tail to provide quality content!

      • It’s a labor of love, but as I’ve stated before, I’m not here for cutting edge insights. It’s mostly stuff you’d likely bring up with your buddies on the weekends
hey did you hear type stuff.

What’s that saying about “can’t please all the people all the time”. Doesn’t bother me, I like the feedback.
