Apparently, he’s alive and kicking in the collective minds of today’s SEC officiating crews, or, more specifically, any crew working Georgia games in the past few years. While our 2024 team has been uncharacteristically sloppy thus far, Dawgnation does an interesting dive into just how disciplined all of Georgia’s opponents have been when facing the Dawgs.
One thing I noticed this season is that we don’t try the old “shift-a-roo” along the defensive line like we used to, or maybe not as much as we used to. There were some issues for using “disconcerting signals” with it, where then-Dawg Jamon Dumas-Johnson would call out for a shift and the crews would consider the shout a means to get the offensive line to shift. Outside of that, though, I have no explanation why our opponents are so much more disciplined and why the Dawgs have been less so thus far.
Thoughts?
I know I’m repeating myself, but I’d like to beat Penn Wagers with Al Ford. Then use Marc Curles to mop up the mess.
We still stem on the DL, but folks have practiced against it enough that it doesn’t always work.
Officiating has been horrendous across the board all season. Seems like there is a penalty and/or review (or both) on every play. If the networks want to know why the games take so long, there’s your answer!
A couple missed calls, replay booth call here and there, friggin’ network$ love more commercial timeout$….
With all the money flying around in college athletics these days it’s ridiculous that we don’t have professional officiating. I’m surprised coaches aren’t demanding it.
The pros just charge more money.
Officiating is horrible everywhere. I was at the App State game last night with my son, who’s a freshman. In the first quarter, the refs flagged App for PI on a pass that was easily 10-15 yards beyond the WR. One drive later, App’s WR was tackled at the goal line right in front of the ref, no PI.
Mark Richt has lost control.
It doesn’t bother me too much when officials miss calls. What bugs the shit out of my is when they call something that didn’t happen like the roughing the passer on Jalon Walker the other night. I also hate when they call something that happened on the other side of the field from the play that had zero impact on the play. That drives me nuts.
