TCOB part 1 – Tennessee Tech preview

I wasn’t sure whether to post the video above or come up with something snarky about Tennessee Tech. I decided on BTO because I do believe that this should be the theme of the season. It goes right along with “Assume nothing” as a battle cry for this season. Battle cry makes me think of this and the fact that I look forward to spending about 3 hours in Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Let’s get to the preview.

When Georgia Has the Ball

Will he or won’t he play on Saturday? Kirby has had enough of Chump’s continued questions on the topic. I thought Trevor Etienne should have played this past Saturday based on what’s in the public domain about the situation (and, surprisingly, Mike Griffith agrees). If he doesn’t play this Saturday, I have to assume that there was more to the spring story than was let on or he has a nagging injury where Kirby wants to hold him out. I expect the offensive game plan to be vanilla ice cream … tasty but unexciting. Establish the running game, sprinkle in a controlled passing game, and let superior athletes make plays in space. If the Dawgs don’t break 500 yards of offense and 40 points on the scoreboard, I’ll be disappointed in the day. We saw a little of Gunner Stockton with the 1st team offense in the Orange Bowl, and I hope we get a generous dose of that on Saturday to see Stockton as a future leader of the Georgia offense.

When TTU Has the Ball

We are going to see a lot of base defense on Saturday against a team that is likely to run a lot of spread concepts. Don’t be surprised if the Dawgs only get 1 or 2 sacks against what will likely be an overmatched TTU offensive line with a QB who is told to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible. The only exotic stuff we’re going to do will be a few of the things we showed against Clemson. If this game goes as expected, we’ll see a lot of bodies on the defensive side of the ball rotate in often. One of the biggest that I want to see is Jamaal Jarrett and whether he is fully ready to join the defensive line rotation. He is a large human being, and I doubt TTU has anyone who can block him if he’s interested. If the Golden Eagles score more points against us than Clemson, I’ll be disappointed in the defensive effort.

What Will Happen

On College Football 25, this game would likely require a 3rd digit on the scoreboard, but real 18-23 year old men behave differently than their video game equivalents. I expect us to be sloppy (even Kirby didn’t seem happy about Monday’s practice) on both sides of the ball, but eventually, the pure athleticism takes over. I expect the game to be out of hand by the middle of the 2nd quarter and for the coaches to agree to a running clock in the 4th quarter. As I mentioned with my first look, no significant injuries as we enter SEC play next Saturday night in Lexington.

Final Score: Georgia 52, TTU 3

About eethomaswfnc

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

      • Not complaining, just letting y’all know what’s happening on this end.
        Damn a Gremlin!!

        • I dated a girl once who drove a Gremlin.

On a side note; I can use on laptop, but mobile doesn’t have FB sign in option.

  1. Good stuff, ee. I do wonder if they’ll play in mostly dime and not their base defense if TTU plays a spread offense. Should see a lot of DBs and get Ellis Robinson some extra PT as well. Unfortunately, a spread offense isn’t what calls for behemoths like Jah, so I’d expect to see a lot of Christen Miller, TID and the other smaller DTs and DEs. But if I’m Kirby, I leave Jah out there anyway to get him some reps, even if he might not be the most effective.

I won’t be able to watch live since I’ll be traveling, but I’ll watch the replay for my postgame bullets. Go Dawgs!

    • DiA, when I say spread concepts, I mean RPO and passes to the perimeter with 3 and 4 wide. I don’t think you’ll see their QB in empty sets very often.

We stay in 4-2-5 personnel a lot against spread teams. The dime/money package typically only comes out in definite passing situations – 3rd and long where you’re trying to protect the sticks.

    • I’d like to see Ellis Robinson get a few more reps. The few that he had late in the Clemson game looked a little rough, which is expected from a young DB, so it would be great for him to get more time on the field to get used to everything.

  2. Just beat ’em up, give them the check and kick them to the curb. GO DAWGS111111111111111

  3. Still having to use the work around to post. It’s annoying but I like this place so I’m doing it. I don’t know why this poses such a problem and word press can’t fix it.

  4. Still no joy on posting comments in anything other than reader app on my phone.

Keep fighting the good fight, guys!

  5. Okay, just found out the reader sticks ads that look like posts in the middle of this site. The previous post from this in reader is some jerk talking about how great the latest WordPress is.

  6. Story,
I’m headed up in the morning and meeting my brother and nephew. We grew up in Thomasville, however my brother moved to Montgomery 40 years ago. We grew up loving the Dawgs and he still is a HUGE dawg fan. He’s got three children that all graduated from Alabama. And of course he’s the outcast in the family. All his children are BIG Bama fans (understandable). He has four grandkids and all but one are Bama fans. HOWEVER, one grandson, he has managed to turn into a BIG dawg fan. He will be with us for his first Bulldawg game. We’re going to the Dawgwalk so he can see his DAWGS! Gonna be an exciting day.
    GO DAWGS!

  7. I have contacted WordPress support. First thing they told me to do was clear browser cache. So, I don’t know how useful they are going to be?

    • Otis my man, sounds like they need to rename it WordPress Useless Support.
      Much more fitting title…

      • In their defense, they have responded to me again. Still saying they don’t really see any issues with our site. I’ve given them some more info that we’ve gathered and Bud Lite has communicated with them as well. They haven’t completely ignored us. But, of course, nothing ever gets fixed as fast as you’d like it too.

  8. Battle Hymn, I played it a lot differently back in ‘90, ‘91, and ‘92.

Will this comment pass through the Jetpack app? I’ve got all sorts of tabs open for WP and not sure which is the easiest to communicate with all you fine folks…..

  9. “If the Golden Eagles score more points against us than Clemson, I’ll be disappointed in the defensive effort.”

I will be happy with solid win, evidence that the experiments the coaches use with different players are promising and no serious injuries. We will need that for Bama and Tejas.

  10. Tried commenting without going to the reader. Was told I had to log in and did that, but when I hit the Comment button, I got a “Sorry, you must be logged in to comment” notice. It’s not y’all, it has to be WordPress, but it frustrates.
