We may have never appreciated enough how Carson Beck took the field to take the most meaningful snap of the 2024 season. This sheds some light on the situation.
Say what you will about Carson and the Transfer Portal and NIL, but give him credit for not pulling a Lebron and flopping when his number was called.
Bravo.
At that moment he was still part of the team. He wanted to win that game too.
That was a great gritty moment. It was the next game and the days leading up to it where Beck screwed up his legacy in the minds of a lot of Bulldog fans. All he had to do was be present and supportive for Gunner. Instead, he was aloof, absent, and looked pouty and miserable on the sidelines in the Sugar Bowl.
He did have to be Nolan Smith on the sidelines, but at least be sitting and talking with Gunner between offensive series helping him analyze what ND was doing on defense.
If Beck had been Nolan Smith on the sideline and headed to the draft in the aftermath, people universally would use the term DGD beside his name (regardless of the outcome). Remember Nolan was a captain for every game after his injury. The guy bleeds red and black.
Beck’s first and last impressions are his lasting legacy. A pick 6 in a game that was in garbage time where he didn’t try to make a tackle and decision to be ME/team in New Orleans. The fact that he reentered the game against Texas to win an SEC championship seems to be a footnote now.
Not a footnote, will always be a special moment – it was pretty incredible to see him come into the game and make the play to win an SEC Championship!
My point is that moment could have been the one that cemented his legacy as a DGD. Instead, it’s a “that’s great, but …” moment.
I appreciate the fact he was willing to return to the game to make that play.
Carson got a bad rap because he was just indifferent, aloof. But what got him most is the down fall of many men. Tell me what college age kid won’t do for some pudding? I really think he learned a life lesson during that time and has matured greatly since then. I think he loved his time at UGA and if he would have stayed, no telling what the outcome might have been. He played for a National Championship, we didn’t. I hope the kid goes on and does well.
His actions between the SEC championship game and the week of the Sugar Bowl had nothing to do with his desire for female companionship. That’s the reason he got a bad rap.
The getting caught laughing on the sideline late in the game in Oxford while his offense was putrid didn’t help either.
He leaves college with 4 rings (2 national championships and 2 SEC championships) … only 1 of which he made a significant contribution to winning … all of them have Gs on them.
I beg to differ EE, his whole mind set and demeanor seemed to change once the twin came aboard. But it’s okay to agree to disagree.
“Stockton Runs a Quarterback Draw, And He Get Blasted, Man”
CB ain’t on the roster, Stockton is. That’s the player I concern myself with. Can Bobo coach Stockton up? That’s the question, not if CB is a DGD or not. Nobody cares. He’s gonzo and we got a Quarterback Room of dudes actually eligible to play. This team ain’t won jack shit since December and is on a one game losing streak, wetting your panties over the Pasty Somali ain’t gonna get us ready. Beat Tennessee State’s ass then win 15 more.
Eyes on the prize Dawgs!
Beck has my respect for re-entering the game.
He doesn’t get hurt then he doesn’t go to Miami because he would have gone to the draft.
I would have liked our chances better against ND with a healthy Beck under center.
Stockton is going to lead us to a double in ‘26 – SEC and Natty.
Everyone is missing the best part of this story:
The entire State of Texas knew we were running the damn ball and they couldn’t stop us from getting the ball in the end zone.
Personally, I blame Bobo.
Beck will be a very good pro, better than the kid from Indiana and best nfl QBs thats come through Athens not named Fran or Matthew, but his ceiling would be even higher if he could improve upon on his competitive comportment.
I bet you was looking forward to spending the entire off season saying how awesome Bobo is after we won the NC and everyone else is a dumbass that doesn’t think he’s the next Bill Walsh.
However, neither have happened. You just gloat about small measures of success that not many will remember.
Actually, I look forward to interacting with people who when asked “who out there knows football better than Kirby?”
Raise their hands and say “I do.”
It gives me hope that these sorts of videos will remain available on youtube:

You can never have enough “content creators.”
Cause Kirby never mad a bad hire on offense. Too bad we ran off that one OC.
This would be a bad multiple year retention of someone who has a considerable track record. At this point, you either trust in Kirby or exalt yourself.
You’ve chosen your path. As have I.
Beck gave us 5 years when many others would have transferred. He even had to watch a walk-on that even the coaches didn’t want take over “his” spot, and instead of leaving, stayed through two years of Stet (after everyone was sure Stet was gone after the first year). He grew up some, had his shots and got hurt for a bitter ending.
Beck has RBF, or whatever the equivalent is for “doesn’t care face” but I’m sure the guy wants to win as much as anyone. He wouldn’t have put up with all the crap to NOT want to win. After he got hurt, he had to look out for his NFL future, and I’m sure he had no idea how long he would need to heal, and how it would affect his draft $$$tatus.
In other words, I give the guy lots of respect for sticking around and trying his best to get us another national championship. He’s a DGD to me.
