Shuck of the Irish

Just when you thought the Notre Dame noise had queited…BUT WAIT…there’s more!

Now that’s the way to lower the SOS and SOR needed for Notre Dame to not get in to the Top 12 of the CFP…relegate them to a G5 schedule (not that it’s much different right now). When schools hear that the most privileged team on earth gets preferential treatment in future polls, they’ll find a way to take away the credibility of your schedule.

I gotta say…I kinda like it.

And, thus concludes my series on the Irish this week. I hope.

  1. Hopefully, Michigan abides. Before all this I was hoping that rivalry would start back up, but now not so much. That was usually an entertaining matchup.

  2. Notre Dame: I’m taking my ball and I’m going home.
P4 ADs: Go ahead, we’re changing the ball and moving the field. AMF!

    • Mickey says “hold my Guinness”…cfp committee gonna invite nd in 2026 no matter their standing, to make up for 2025…we gonna hear a dumpster load of crap from the media during this cfp session concerning their “cry like a chumpion” tantrum…GO DAWGS!!

  3. Those pretentious, arrogant jackasses have shown their true colors since Sunday. I had given them the benefit of the doubt after the way the 2 fan bases interacted for that home and home.

I said when this whole thing started, ND needed to tread carefully. The shots and threats at the ACC fell flat. The Power 4 commissioners and ADs have realized that it’s not 1970 anymore. Hold the line, fellas, hold the line.

The Senator would have had a field day with this whole thing. JP, you’ve done yeoman’s work worthy of our content creator in perpetuity.

  4. Like Barney Fife said, “We have got to put on THE BIG FREEZE. We have to freeze ‘em out and show him he’s not wanted.”

  5. Their arrogance and self righteousness are on full display. There’s nothing Christian about their selfishness. They’re a perfect fit for the b10. Join a conference or stay on the outside without special privileges.

  6. Bevacqua took a bad situation, poured gas on it, and set it on fire. He got a lot of the attention he was craving, but now his house is on fire. Listening to Pete Bevacqua whine makes me appreciate having a solid AD like Josh Brooks.

    • I said this before. Listening to them whine is like hearing some trust fund dickhead crying because his parents took away his Amex Black and his Bentley.

  7. Fuck that. Let’s start right now. Let’s collectively help all the teams on their schedule cancel their games with those mutha fuckers and leave them with nothing. We can figure out another game to schedule. Shit pay off any FCS teams you have and schedule one of their opponents instead. I know it would take some serious juggling, but I bet we could pull it off.

  8. Said earlier in the week, ACC should being doing this NOW. Once the SOS is 75+ they will be regulated to insignificant and the only attention they will get is from the crying

  9. Notre Lame will either join the PAC2 or Ivy League to get a seat at the table.

  10. It’s so cute y’all want to freeze them out. I say it’s time to order a Code Red on them.

  11. I am going to disagree with most. Bama has 3 losses inculding a terrible loss to FSU and -3 rushing yards to UGA. Bama doesn’t deserve a spot. ND deserves it more. ND would likely play in a bowl televised by ESPN. The playoff is the ESPN invitational, good on them for not letting ESPN make more money off of them.

    • Sorry, but if ESPN were picking the teams or approving/vetoing the rankings before released, someone within the committee room or in the CFP brass would have leaked it by now.

Sure, it’s the ESPN Invitational, but everyone (including Notre Dame as an independent) involved agreed to how this was going to work when it started in 2014.

I guarantee you no one at ESPN or Disney was pleased to see the field without Notre Dame in it.

    • I tend to agree with you otto. Notre Dame’s schedule ain’t great, but they lost by 1 to an 11-1 A&M team and by 3 to a 10-2 Miami team on the road. They could only play who was on their schedule and looked pretty dominant after the A&M loss.

Granted that Bama had one of the two best regular season wins by beating us in Athens (the other being Indiana at Oregon) and had a streak of wins after that in October over ranked teams. But the 5-7 FSU loss by two touchdowns is probably the worst loss of the regular season in CFB. They needed a miracle at the end of October to beat South Carolina (4-8) by scoring two TDs in the last 2:15 of the game. They looked less than impressive to say the least beating LSU by 11 points. They lost to Oklahoma in November in Tuscaloosa. They got seriously outplayed by 5-7 Auburn (410+ yards to 280 yards of offense and Auburn had SIX dropped passes) that fired their head coach and needed a fumble by Auburn’s best player with thirty seconds to play to prevent Auburn from attempting a game tying (or winning) score. And of course they got woodshedded in Atlanta by the Dawgs that was a far worse beating than the scoreboard said it was. The committee’s whole “body of work” thing was BS. Anyone that watched Bama saw that after handily beating Tennessee in mid October they didn’t look very good in any game against a real opponent the rest of the season. They couldn’t run the ball. They couldn’t stop the run. My tin foil hat tells me that the reason that Bama got in was because if they hadn’t it was only a matter of time before a team sitting in the 8, 9 or 10 spot in the CFP rankings before championship weekend would opt out of playing in their conference championship to avoid missing the playoff.

  12. Well since ND has taken their ball and gone home, thus pissing off every post season bowl, they can expect to get their way next year. Great to hear that the P4 are pissed about the 2026 deal and it should make ESPN a little nervous about next years invitational.

  13. There should be NO special rules for Notre Dame or anyone else. If it’s 12 or 16 teams, just take teams 1-12 or 1-16 and go from there. Doesn’t matter if you’re a conference champ or not.

    • No reason to insert the Group of 5 teams if they’re not in the top 12 or 16. Do we want the 12 or 16 BEST teams or do we pretend like Tulane or James Madison has a snowball’s chance in hell in winning the national championship?
