The weekend scrimmage from Sanford had a small highlight reel attached to it:
Derek mentioned in the comments yesterday that the defense was taking the offense to task and that the DBs were a tough group. The video has plenty of evidence of that throughout.
Not a lot else I could find from the scrimmage regarding performance or personnel, aside from Kirby making a comment that no one has stepped up as leaders in their scrimmage, which sounds like prototypical Kirby speak for preseason insights. I did see this, from a Dawg fan on Twitter:
It’s only highlights, but I was trying to get some insight on our offensive line situation and who was getting work under center. Can you guys see anything? Anyone other than Derek get a chance to get a sneak peak?
Also, something else to consider as it pertains to the expanded playoff era:
Wouldn’t be surprised if the offensive and defensive lines aren’t rotating like musical chairs, and could provide more insight on why Wilson was off to the side in practices while more guys are getting looks at center.
It looked to me that Ratledge was getting first team snaps at center and that #60 Peagler was getting some as well with the backups. If 74 had any I didn’t take notice as I was looking at the backup qbs. All three backup qbs looked pretty even to me. 14 had a beaut to 0 on a wheel route for a long td and Rashada had a nice long run.
Pope, the bama transfer, struggled at #2 safety in several situations.
55 must not be far off. He was dressed and running. I didn’t notice anything on his hands or arms.
As you might expect Kirby was annoyed throughout. An incomplete list:
”softest team we’ve ever had here”
”you guys are going to lead the nation in defensive holding”
”no walking on the field!!! Schumann!! 2 guys just walked onto the field!!!”
”if you can’t do what we ask you to do you can’t play in the game”
”don’t come crying to me about playing time”
”we have someone blaming a sweaty ball!” (I think that was rashada who threw a wtf ball one rep.)
I’m sure it had to do with the heat but there wasn’t a lot of enthusiasm out there. My concern going in was the same coming out:
-where is the missing bowers/ladd production being made up? Do we have any guys that keep dcs from sleeping on game week?
From what I see its going to be offensive production by committee and heavy reliance on defense and kicking game. The rbs look scarier than the wrs.
Evans and Smith are big play guys but how many touches can they get a game? And how healthy can they stay? They aren’t guys you can force the ball to like a pickens or wims or bowers.
Two words – Dylan Bell.
dude will have 500-600 yards of offense this season. Most will receiving. My .02 anyway
More than two words, hasn’t been a #92 sighting yet, is CKS holding him back, is he on the scout team, should we “blame Bobo”…GO DAWGS!!
“As you might expect Kirby was annoyed throughout.” Yep, that’s exactly what I expected, and exactly what I wanted to hear.
Saturday before last I ran past the practice field around 1:30 or so and could hear Kirby over my headphones making corrections and giving advice. Thank you for the report!
I’ve not yet heard what is going on with Wilson.
He has a minor foot injury. Should be fine.
As far as the weather is concerned at least we start the year in air condition comfort. UF gets to sweat their nuts off against Miami. The Golden Domers get to melt in college station. The Trojans are going to the bayou, that ones going to be a bit sweaty.
Pretty sure USC-LSU is in Vegas under the dome there.
