Protecting Our Heads – Images from Spring Practice

The Georgia Football Social Media team released a quick video from spring practice.

There’s all those protective skull caps again. The word on the social streets is this team is more focused and dialed in this spring. No distractions, people have been keeping their noses clean (knock on wood), and the NIL thing doesn’t seem to be overwhelming the team narrative as it did last season.

I know those caps are supposed to protect against concussions. I hope Kirby and everyone is keeping the space between the ears protected from nonsense, too.

  1. my biggest concern with our QB from Rabun co. is his wind up and release as it is slowwwwwww…but he has unquestioned toughness and moxy.
    I trust Coach Smart.

  2. WRs catching balls with their hands and looking it in to their body. Keep it up.

  3. Might just be me, but damn if Stockton doesn’t throw a pretty pass. I think he throws a better ball than we saw last season.

    • Word from his work at Pro Day is that he’s improved his arm movement to get a quicker release. Can’t say if that’s true or not and throwing without pressure is a whole other thing, but folks seem to indicate he’s improving. And yes, I thought the same thing.

  4. On the skull caps, I heard a guy years ago suggest a zero cost solution to reducing concussions. Players are bigger and faster at every position. Can’t do anything about the size but if they are slowed down the force to the head during collisions diminishes. His idea was let the grass grow taller to slow the players down. I guess all the field turf ( I hate field turf) could be engineered to slow players down as well. Since every player would slow down no one watching would notice a difference.

  5. sounds backwards but if the players didn’t have a helmet would there be more « form » tackling instead of leading with the head…you would eliminate targeting because you are not launching with your head without a helmet…a recent study by NIH found rugby had less concuss. than nfl (R22%-Nfl 33%)…it will never be 0% but I wonder how different it would be if they didn’t have so much equipment. rugby guys are just as ‘roided up as your college/nfl player.
