He is correct about two things. The ESPN Invitational is a tournament for teams the casual fans want to see filled out with top teams it has to invite to maintain some credibility.
His comment that the EI affects the excitement of a conference championship race is, unfortunately, accurate.
Bless his heart. Tech hasn’t been relevant since before the BCS, so they’re not sure how this stuff works now. They’re gonna get a couple of chances to prove themselves. Pitt is good, and if they beat us they’ll make their case.
What you don’t want to do is record yourself prematurely whining about early rankings that don’t matter only to see your team end up 9-3 and headed to the Cheez-It Bowl.

The reason I wouldn’t mind seeing Bama and TAMU sew up their spots in the SECCG early is so the Jacketasses can experience getting our best shot.
Agree. Best path for us is to be #3 in the SEC and get that extra week off. We won the SECCG last year and no one cares other than maybe just 50% of our own fan base. Damn shame they’ve killed it with the playoffs. When they go to 16 I’m serious they should convert the conference championship games to play-in games for #3 and #4 to earn the guaranteed 3rd spot so the game has real meaning and the fight to be #1 and #2 to get the auto-bye also makes the 9 game schedule plus tie-breakers have more consequence. As it is the two best teams beat on each other with the loser possibly getting knocked out of the playoffs and winner losing the stupid committee’s eyeball test to drop in the seeding. Negative rewards for winning which is beyond stupid.

Always want to win the conference. Playoffs are secondary to me. I don’t want to be #3 in the league. Hope A&M screws up so we get another shot at Bama, though it would be funny if Bama doesn’t make SECCG after beating us for the second year in a row.

I genuinely hate Tech. My oldest brother is an alum and I graduated UGA. But let’s not forget it took eight overtimes to beat them last year. Haynes King is the real deal. I believe Tech is the best team we play for the rest of the regular season. Seriously. I think Texas is an easier win.
Forget ranked wins. Tech has beaten 3 teams with winning records, and the least number of losses of any of them is 3 losses.
Haynes King and their offense is legit, but their defense is bad and they’ve played nobody.
He’s right…its not an even playing field when your conference gets an automatic bid to the conference champion…when your champion will be the champion of TURDS.
What’s he so concerned about. All tech has to do is beat us and they’re in. They can win it on the field, what more could you want? I know it was a tight game last year, but I think we will handle them with ease this year. I’m glad they have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs this year, it will make kicking their ass even more fun.
