I’m developing a theme here. Looking to expand MPC to a daily thing (much to muckbeast’s chagrin). I’m currently centering it around birthdays. Also looking to include dates of significant album releases, career milestones, etc. If there’s a notable death, we’ll jump off the regular track and pay homage as needed. So, today, we have a couple of birthdays of note.
Born today in 1951 is Chris Rea. He’s most famous for his 1978 hit “Fool (If You Think It Is Over)”. I’m more partial to this lesser known track:
Also born today in 1967 is Evan Dando, the frontman for The Lemonheads. They weren’t really in my rotation except for this track:
What’s playing in your world today?
While I really like the MPC, one of the things that made it unique was how it was interspersed semi-regularly to break up the emphasis on college football. I wonder if daily might be too often and take away some of what makes it unique. Just my opinion.
chicagodawgfan,
I was trying to think of a nice way of saying the same thing. Thank you for doing so nicely with the MPC not being a daily thing. Football is still the reason we are here.
More Lennon Sisters! 😂🤣
I’ll show these assholes, the next MPC will be all Yoko Ono. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
🤣🤣🤣
OMG!!!! We’ve created a damned monster!
Yoko Ono?!?!? NO!, NO!……..AAAAAARRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!
Gotdam hippies.
You asked, here’s my current fav. Thank me later.
Luv me some Joe B.!!!
Gotdam Yacht-rockers.
I for sure did not have Chris Rea and the Lemonheads together in an MPC on my bingo card today…
“It’s a Shame About Ray” is one of my favorites from the Lemonheads.
The Outdoor Type by the Lemonheads. My theme song.
Not my blog, and I certainly appreciate what you’re doing here, so, you do you.
Having said that, I gotta agree with chicagodawgfan. To me, FWIW, this clutters up the space, and makes it less likely that I’ll visit, because GTP was my goto UGA football source. I skipped that MPC editions regularly. I don’t expect that to influence your posting decisions 🙂
Same. MPC was something I simply scrolled past on GTP, which was fine because it was rare. But this……….
I have no interest in a music blog.
This is off the beaten path of traditional MPCs, but I’ve been looping the Dune 2 soundtrack for the last week. Hans Zimmer won’t be everyone’s cup of tea as he’s become a little heavy on the techno/electronic sounds for traditional movie scores, but he was absolutely born to make sci-fi soundtracks.
And obviously I’m biased because I loved the movie, but this track was already bonkers before I saw the movie. Once you hear it in context with its actual movie scene, just inject it straight into my veins.

I was never a big MPC fan, because I’m not a big music guy in general. It’s more like a soundtrack for me, background noise for the story, not the story itself. That said, it didnt bother me as a regular feature at all. If you are a music person, and the MPC was a beloved feature, and people want more, I am not complaining. Unlike the playpen, it isnt offensive. But I do wonder if every day isnt a bit more of it than is optimal. Keep the main thing the main thing, you know? The story here is UGA football (and other sports). If there’s a tie in or a song that expresses some thing we are all feeling, I am all for it.
Given your efforts in pulling this together, you certainly should do it how you think is best. Everyone doesnt have to like every tweak or aspect. Just throwing up a first blush reaction. Sometimes, less is more. GATA.
But more cannon shots. We like those.
I’ll dial it back, no big deal
+1. Benevolent dictatorships work best.
I’m ok either way, truly. Imagine, me being an arbiter of anything on here. The Senator is prebably shaking his head in the Great Beyond, but only because he knew me.
😁
I AM a music guy (see profile photo). Aging wannabe guitar hero and songwriter and lover of most musical genres. Music is essential to my life, but I think I agree with other posters that an MPC every day may dilute the power of the MPC post. I love the Huddle Up feature though – think it’s great….
Musically, lately I’ve been spending time with Revolver (“Taxman” – guess it’s that time of year) and finding a re-appreciation for The Beatles.
For a hidden gem, if you are a blues/rock genre person and have never heard Phillip Sayce (particularly the Peace Machine album and “Over My Head” off the same album), give it a listen! If you like Hendrix/SRV, you won’t hate this.
Overall, thanks so much for taking this on, and let us know if/when any of us can help carry the load.
THE POWER OF THE MPC COMPELS YOU!!!!!!
Whew. Just had a flashback to the Exorcist. But my brain works (sic) in odd ways. No offense intended to the musical people. I’m many of you would be appalled at my obsession with late 70s/early 80s Burt Reynolds movies, and the pair of Clint Eastwood movies where his trusty sidekick was an orangutan. It’s a big enough world for us all.
also, I really need an edit button. “I’m SURE many of you”. Grrrr.
I’m pretty easy to please when someone else is doing the lifting. As Waylon Jennings once said, “Go on, do what you wanna do.”

Also, the face above is how I look at vegans.
“Piano roll blues I danced holes in my shoes”
Just gotdam!!!

The answer to why in CFB
Old Chris Rea is the best Chris Rea… https://youtu.be/hDNOPLBzWZY?si=XMjc-slyoKwlSboQ
I never knew about Chris Rea, and was enjoying him….until he started singing.🤨 Still, while I get the not every day point others made, I do like learning about some music I never knew before.
Reservoir Dawg, always good to see you, man.
MPC every day is fine with me. All you puppy-kicking azzzzholes that don’t like? Don’t click on it. During downtimes and offseason Youtube music provides a bit of happiness. That old Chris Rea is something I enjoyed and would’ve never known about.
I’ve finally gotten GTP Refugees up to third on my Google search results. The others are pretty interesting. I’ll probably have the feds come check up on me at some point.
Russ, the Feystone Feds came by here looking for you already. They didn’t stay long.
Their leeeeeader said upon exiting the property, “You can go to hell. I’m going to Texas.”
Nice David Crocket allusion.
Had to go shopping for furniture today, so, I gave this a little thought. I’ve made a change to the MPC posts where, the Youtube videos are not visible unless you click to “Read More”. Those that want to read can, those that don’t care, can skip over it and there’s no clutter on the main page. Thoughts? Issues?
If you try to please everybody you’ll please nobody. Your blog, your rules. If music is your thing, then let it sing. You’ll make other decisions that won’t sit well with the “that’s not what the Senator did” crowd. People will come and go, but the soul of this community will stay.
…at least until something better comes along. 🤣
Yeah this is really getting excessive. It was a palate cleanser because it was like 1 out of 30 posts or less.
This is feeling like a music blog and I have zero interest in that.
They were rare and so it didn’t really matter. It was just a silly thing the Senator did so no biggie.
But this is excessive and very unpleasant. :/
One of the many things the Senator was very good at was keeping it a Georgia football blog – overwhelmingly.
Over the years, people would try to get him to blog about the Braves, the Falcons, all sorts of other ancillary things that maybe kinda sorta were close, but the Senator resisted.
There were occasional posts about other UGA sports – but they were rare. MPC was also super rare. So it wasn’t a distraction. Even the playpen – which was an effort to try and coral bad behavior – eventually got scrapped.
The signal to noise ratio was exceptionally high on GTP and that is a gigantic reason it was such an amazing and unique place.
I don’t like being negative as I really respect what you’ve done for us so far Otis. But if this isn’t going to be 99% a Georgia Football Blog, then I’m probably just going to wish you the best and hope someone else creates a GTP spiritual successor.
Muckbeast, I’ve always felt a bit connected to you as often you and I were the only ones posting at zero three hundred in the AM. I hope you’ll stay as your posts are intelligent and interesting.
Also. cranberry juice helps my wife when she’s on her period. 😉
I feel the Same bro.
And I definitely don’t want to be a whiny bitch here, though I realize I kinda am :/.
I thought about just shutting my yap, but for every person like me willing to say something there might be a bunch more who will just silently leave and then we lose what could have been.
As some of you know, my company makes online video games so community management has been one of the most important skills I’ve had to develop in my 30+ years running online games.
(In case you don’t know this: gamers can be very vocal about their opinions -especially negative ones. :P)
I have found that angry people still care (often passionately), and so usually they aren’t the biggest danger. People being quiet is the danger. Communities die primarily in silence: when people don’t like what is happening in the community they just quietly slink away.
I didn’t want that to happen, so I figured it was my duty to give feedback and let Otis decide what kind of blog he wants. Ultimately, its up to him and I respect that either way.
Seriously? This is satire/trolling right? ‘Cause you sound like a 5 year old threatening to run away from home because mommy didn’t get the cereal he likes.
Otis it’s your show. Do it however you want. Daily MPC’s will make this a daily stop for me.
You might want to work on your reading comprehension.
For example:
“I don’t like being negative as I really respect what you’ve done for us so far Otis.”
“if this isn’t going to be 99% a Georgia Football Blog, then I’m probably just going to wish you the best”
“Ultimately, its up to him and I respect that either way.”
I realize it takes effort to read more than 1 sentence, but isn’t the whole point of visiting a blog to *READ*?
I’m only going to say this. Be patient. We said when we started this that GTPR would lay low for a month and give the Senator’s family time to grieve and sort through their important affairs. I don’t expect GTP is in that category for them. So, in the meantime, my intent was to just keep some content on here, where everyone could gather and stay in touch until we launch full bore. Just something to while the time away until content starts getting published. This blog is not fully operational yet. A hand full of good folks have stepped up and offered to contribute but, I haven’t given them any access yet because we’re waiting. UGA football content is coming if all of you will just be patient. What’s being posted currently is going to drastically change, probably in less than a week. So, save your criticisms for then. Now is not the time.
Sounds good bro.
Like I said: communities die in silence. I appreciate what you are doing here so I wanted to share my feedback on the enormous amount of music posts – while at the same time acknowledging this is your place, your decision, and I respect it either way.
Thanks again,
I read it again, sounded out the words and everything, and still came to the same conclusion. With that I’ll step off. It’s a new adventure and you have every right to go find another community to share with if this one doesn’t suit your needs should you so choose.
“The signal to noise ratio was exceptionally high…”
What a great metaphor!
Rock on, Muck!
Question? I modified the MPC posts so that the Youtube videos do not show on the main page. There will only be a text blurb visible on the main page and you have to click the post to see the rest. Is that not a compromise we can live with? Less clutter on main page and easily skipped over if you’re not interested.
Just my two, Otis. The music videos have looked interesting enough to check out so I do when I can. I’m very thankful for the blog! I feel like I’ve stayed informed in the area of UGA football and other sports so please keep up the great work!
I think that’s great, but why would you feel the need to post music posts more than once a month or so like the Senator did? As a … palate cleanser…
We are here for Georgia football, not music. If you want to start a music blog, why not start a music blog?
I’m just honestly vexed by the whole thing. Then again, I’m way over my threshold for negative posts that make me comfortable so I’ll try to just shut up now.
Sounds good to me, Otis!
After all, guys, if we get our daily fix of Dawg Football, what the heck difference does it make if there’s other stuff that can be ignored if we so choose???
