Huddle Up 3/3/2024

The Diamond Dawgs spent the weekend whipping Tech’s ass. Had’em 9-3 Friday after 4.5 and Tech quit. Beat’em 3-1 Saturday. Tech had us 9-3 yesterday. We didn’t quit, beat’em 11-9. Tuck Fech. That is all.

Go Dawgs!

  1. Reminds me of something a Monticello, Georgia buddy of mine once said:

    Whupped Monday
    Kilt Tuesday
    Put Wednesday in the hospital
    Called up Thursday
    To run tell Friday
Don’t come fuckin’ around here Sat-dy nor
    Sunday.

  2. I like the fight in Georgia’s baseball team this year. Maybe next year for basketball.

If y’all haven’t read Josh Pate’s interview with Coach Kirby at 247 Sports, it’s worth a few minutes.

    https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/everything-kirby-smart-said-during-his-late-kick-with-josh-pate-interview-227925831/

On where he sees himself in his coaching career:

“I’m in the middle. I definitely don’t feel young anymore. As we hire younger coaches and I’m around players. I definitely don’t feel young anymore. But I don’t feel old either. So I’m calling it neutral – 48 sitting in the middle – where it’s either, you know, off, keep going from here and ascend and keep rising and keep loving it or you’re looking at the other side of it is I’ve only been doing it eight, nine years. How much more time do you have? But I certainly think that I’m somewhere in the middle.”

With the pace of his schedule, I’m take the middle all day long and on Tuesdays. GATA Kirbs.

    • That’s a must read. Hard to call Kirby the face of CFB or elder statesman, yet who else qualifies? With Saban on GameDay, it will be interesting if he lets loose on the problems with CFB or is confined to simplistic analysis for 2 minutes. I hope he takes a stand…Kirby has enough on his plate. Trying to convince an 18 year old that $20k more and a promise of more playing time is not as important as staying in this program’s culture has got to be a near impossible task. I can’t ever see him going to the NFL, but a $100 million contract and opportunity to just coach more than deal with the Wild West of changing rules could be appealing as a retirement plan.

      • I don’t see Kirby in the league because the stuff he talks about just doesn’t connect with the players. He would have to change his coaching style completely and he would have a much more limited influence on the roster.

As he said on the interview with Pate, all he’s asking for is an assurance around what his roster is going to look like for the next year. I’m guessing that would mean 1 portal window.

        • ee,
Totally agree with you regarding Kirby and the senior pro league.

I doubt most outsiders under the deep family connection he has to UGA.

      • FPD,

Don’t even talk like that. Kirby has to stay at GA, I don’t care how much it cost the AA to keep this man, just make sure you keep him. There is no better in any level of football today than our coach. Keep him as our coach.

        • I don’t think Kirby will leave college football, but college football may leave him. Employee status, NLRB, OSHA, regulations, CBA, etc. could make the college HC job untenable compared to a NFL gig. Just saying…

    • I’ve seen him a few times in a smaller group setting. He is always the same, very intense and very direct. I cannot see him keeping up that pace for twenty years, but I do think he loves it. Plan to enjoy every minute of his tenure!

      • “I cannot see him keeping up that pace for twenty years”. I read similar quite often. You girls can’t see yourself keeping up that pace for twenty years is what you actually mean. It may be hard to admit but Kirby is made of sterner stuff than you. There are folks who operate harder for longer and less accolades than HC Smart. Of course they don’t make the amount of money Kirby earns. We’ll see how that affects his longevity.

        • Considering the bank CKS is depositing, in that 10-12 year range with the occasional contract extension, at age 58, $200 million ain’t bad, throw family life into the mix and bring what UGA football has turned into, CKS could be a AD somewhere or just hang out at the beach?…GO DAWGS!!

        • Thats a good point. I felt attacked bc I say the same thing about KS not being able to do it forever. I will go find my place to sit down and appreciate what I do have. Thank you for the perspective.

  3. Considering 7 of Fech’s 9 runs (especially the 4 spot they put up early) were unearned, it could have been a total beatdown yesterday.

    • My dad taught me to HATE Tech before he taught me to love the LORD
