Monday Musings: Predicting the Sunday Morning Quarterbacking

Here’s something that might get the chatter rolling today.

On Sunday, August 31st…Georgia fans will be waking up and celebrating (insert highlight here) and will be complaining about (insert Mike Bobo here).

Cheer up, Carson, at least the defense can’t set the edge!

Kidding aside, what do you think people will be talking about positively and what will they be bitching about next Sunday after the Marshall game?

Have at it in the comments.

  1. All I am going to say is that if our offense looks stagnant against a completely rebuilt Marshall team, do not come on here and try to claim Kirby was telling Bobo to keep it “vanilla” so we don’t show our hand. That’s weak, and more likely than not a bunch of bullshit IMO.

      • Didn’t take it as such! I realize way in advanced that it’s either gonna be “Bobo sucks” or “let’s see what they do against real competition”. Like sands through the hourglass…just turn it upside down and watch it all happen again! Lol.

          • Or any of the runs up the middle. Then when it sets up play action: “the quarterback bailed him out”!

          • There are without question some of our fans that have adopted the blame Mike Bobo meme to the point its totally useless to attempt a rational honest conversation.

I’ll totally agree he’s made some maddening calls. Just be able to acknowledge the great ones too.

          • I really doubt that. What do you think the other side will say if we come out and have yet another 6 point first half with 5 punts? It’s something us fans became quite accustomed to last season. I’m really pulling for Bobo, Searles & Coley to be amazing coaches this year & take us back to the promised land in their 2nd stint here at UGA. So far I’ve seen no reason yet to believe that’s likely to occur. Please prove me wrong Mike!

    • It may be weak..but it also may be accurate. Kirby isn’t big on style points against cupcakes…yet, the offense should perform at a high level before calling off the Dawgs (and showing the play book) in the second half. If it’s a struggle then I’ll be using the old “playing to the level of the opponent” gripe and worrying that the program has regressed..With the talent Georgia has, I can’t see that happening.

      • and I have no real idea as to how Bobo will approach this game. But I’d like to see him feature the vanilla running game, deep throws to WRs while hiding the TE passing game until we get to Kneeland.

  2. In these games only pay attention to how well the team executes mentally. Penalties, missed tackles/blocks, blown coverages, not containing (Chaz is gone …) etc. I fully expect vanilla with a heathy dose of WR screens.

    • Oof. Was that a preemptive strike? If we hang 30 on them in the 1st half, and Kirby puts in the 2nd string by mid 3rd quarter, then I don’t think anyone is gonna complain. But if Bobo is calling WR screens all day then that probably means we still can’t run the ball and that ain’t good.

  3. Disney Dawgs will be on top of the world after starting 2-0 and heading to Knoxville. “Bobo has figured it out”, “Deliverance for Heisman”, “This is UGAs best DL ever”, “RBU is back”, etc. Let’s tamp it down til after Tennessee & Bama.

  4. I look for us to play some bully ball. Try and impose our will by running it down their throat and then working some play action pass. Shorten the game to come out healthy. Also like Grantham said, SET THE FRIGGING EDGE ! If we can’t do that, ” that damn Bobo”.

  5. People will be happy about the defense and mad if the offense doesnt put up a half a hundred or better.

The Bobo obsessed would rather be right than have a good offense. It is oddly personal to them. Over the last couple years Ive found myself in the odd position of not trying to defend Bobo exactly but push back against over emotional craziness. Why? Because they present as realism. There’s nothing realistic about those people. They hate Bobo so much they don’t want the offense to perform well if it means Bobo would hang around as OC.

If the offense sucks this year it’s fine with me if Bobo goes. If it’s good then Im fine with him staying. But regardless Bobo ain’t gonna be Todd Monken. I don’t care. As long as the offense works Im happy. Weird to me that they seem to have such scars from the Richt era when it comes to Bobo. I have a lot more bad memories about defense from those years than anything else.

    • Surely someone before me has called it “Bobo Derangement Syndrome”, right???

      • Corch Irvin Meyers from GTP hated my guts until that site was locked for describing him as having BDS. But he had a raging case of it.

          • Yeah…I miss all of that too. Corch never was able to get the best of Derek but he sure tried. It got so bad that Bluto had to step in a couple of times.

  6. I don’t care about the final score (as long as we win) or style points. What I’ll be watching is the LOS on both sides. If we aren’t dominating the LOS on both sides of the ball, then my inner Munson is going to start waking me up in the middle of the night…

  7. I’m looking to see if we build a big lead that allows subs to get significant PT. Champions don’t play with their food.

  8. I can’t wait for the 2 guys behind me to bitch about Bobo’s play calling. Sort of like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano.

I am interested most in the run defense. Can we take an offense that should be overmatched and shut down their run game? If not, the Munson in me will start growing until Tennessee.

Yes, to those who are looking for a reason to bitch, it’s going to be Nilla Wafer game plan on Saturday afternoon. The players will know that going in and be expected to execute at a high level.

    • I do not care who agrees or disagrees, but I am not a fan of vanilla game plans. In particular, I think Bobo should call every game this year like his hair is on fire because last year we dicked around so much in the first half establishing rhythm and gauging the other defense that we often put our team in an early hole. No, I would rather they score quick early with big plays to our big time players and step on the other teams neck from jump.

      • Let’s empty out the playbook so the internet can be happy.

My point is that a lot of the next 2 Saturdays is going to be about execution of the plays called and allowing Gunner to get some time in game conditions to make checks and adjustments at the line in front of a friendly crowd.

If you have a problem with the game plan over the next 2 games, you probably should direct some of your ire toward the head coach.

  9. I am hopeful that we get B+ to A level play from the offensive line. I comped my tickets to one of my wife’s coworkers so I won’t get to hear the guy behind me piss and moan about Bobo’s wasted plays.

  10. Correct every offensive play that is not a touchdown there are those 2 guys behind me that will complain about play calling (after the fact Einsteins). I want to see O-line push and heavy dose of running, really don’t care if we throw a pass all day. looking for D-line controlling LOS and defensive back cover skills.

  11. I bet they’ll be bitching about the score not being high enough and the vanilla play calling. The coaches have said all spring and summer that we have to get better at running the ball, which means “Herschel left, Herschel right, Herschel up the middle”.

They’ll toss in a few deep balls to see if we can now connect on them. Basically, it’ll be the same start to every year (without the big first game).

  12. Don’t really care about the final score so long as it’s comfortable (17+ pts). Kirby doesn’t like to run it up on smaller schools.

What I do want to see is:
O-line blocking like they’re pissed off about it.
    D-line pressuring/containing the QB.
WR’s actually catching more than dropping.
    Tackling. Tackling. Tackling.

  13. In the words of Mona Lisa Vito, “That’s a bullshit question.” No offense of course. 😉 No one has any clue what’s going to happen Saturday, and there are too many unknowns and variables to have any kind of simple answer.

The Bobophiles are scared shitless that we’re going to come out slow and inept on offense. So they’re already sharpening their knives to go after Bobophobes, who know that while we’re capable of putting up gaudy stats and scoring a lot points, we’ve got enough evidence from last year to know that we’re more likely to see the crayon box instead of the paint brush. Either way, the comments sections should be fun.

Nobody really worries about the defense, because Kiby, and because it’s an offense-led game now.

As for me and my house, we blame Bobo.

  14. I was looking at a preview of the possible dept chart and I’m in shock. According to the chart we are counting on a lot of transfers to start and a lot of guys from the Scout Team last year as 1st backup. The only position group that is typical 2021-2022 UGA is the TE group. We are extremely lucky to have two warm up games before UT. How we play in the first two may show us that my worries are unfounded, otherwise Josh Pate’s 9-3 prediction will look good. (Posted earlier under wrong post.)

    • That’s probably true, but our scout team would probably be ranked in the top 20 by themselves. Kirby has stockpiled talent and I’m expecting them to step up.

  15. I can’t wait to start my tally of second and long RB draw plays.

  16. I need to get my sister on this site. She told me she hates it when we have to punt. She’d fit right in here. LOL!

  17. We will applaud catches by our WRs. We will call for mass firings if Marshall’s QB runs up the middle for first downs time and time again.
