Looking Forward to Week One, and Hope for 2025

I have to say, even my jaded self is still (maybe foolishly) looking forward to next season:

Of course that doesn’t include Georgia hosting Marshall, but there’s plenty of good games for a season opener. Some of the preseason early prognostication is looking favorable for Georgia, too:

And this is a maybe little bit absurd:

Florida and Auburn relevant again? Is Noah building another cruise ship or something?

Speaking of next season…which game are you most looking forward to? Alabama in Athens? A revenge game with Ole Miss in town?

What are your hopes/optimism for 2025 and the ‘Dawgs?

  1. I want to see if we can keep that home winning streak up through 2025, which means beating bama, texas and om and if we can get back into that field, hopefully, with some damn juice this time.

    The schedule is perfect for a new starting qb. I hope we can take advantage of it.

  2. I’m looking forward to that Texas game for them to experience what a hostile environment looks like.

    The home game I want to win the most is to beat the tar out of Alabama.

    I really want us to send the Handbags back to their central Florida trailer parks with their tails between their legs.

  6. No doubt for me, the gumps. I despise the tide and I’m sick of losing to them. I’m sure Kirby is too. 1 and 6 is pathetic with some of the talented teams we’ve had.

    • This is genius and must be done in my opinion. Do you think we could get Dasani to donate 93,000 bottles of water as a promotion?

  8. Lol, that’s because we’re (me, definitely) junkies in an abusive relationship. Why sell my Daddy’s truck for a gold top Les Paul when I can blow the cash on CFB? Along with all of the other bad decisions (like posting) I’ve made for the last 40 years?

  9. My hopes/optimism for 2025 and the ‘Dawgs are currently on hold. I’ve not seen any announcements about coaching changes. I might have missed it. But without some changes to our staff I think next year is very likely to look extremely similar to what we saw in 2024. Yes, we managed to win the SEC and we beat Texas twice. Most of the rest of the season wasn’t fun to watch. It’s strange to say you’ve underachieved when you win the SEC but in the CFP era a conference championship is meaningless. The SEC ought to quit staging them in my opinion. I don’t believe the Dawgs ever played a complete game all season. Or even came particularly close to doing so. At least some of that has to fall on the coaches. I think a few folks need to move on before we improve. And Kirby probably needs to learn to leverage the portal more effectively.

    • That sums up my feelings almost exactly. First of all, it’s way too damned early to start even caring about next year. I’m still exhausted from this past season. Second, unless there are changes among the coordinators, I’m going to have lower than usual expectations for this team. Just thinking about this right now gives me a headache, so I’m going to ignore all of the off season football talk for the next 6 months and focus on the Hoops Dawgs (damn them for losing to the Hogs last night) and maybe the Braves.

  10. 8-4. There are significant questions for the 25 team.
    1. OL maybe Greene gets healthy otherwise OT looks bad. Searles is the coach and the 3 interior dudes that left will get drafted.

    OLB/DE – the last 2 years of transfers have thinned this position out.

    3 DB – there is one CB that can play, the rest didn’t show much last year. Losing 2 starting safeties thins the secondary out even more.

    4 WR – the current group is easy to cover and drops 3 a game. The transfers are upgrades but not game changers. I don’t count on freshman, especially at Georgia where blocking is the priority to get on the field. Also Coley coaches this group so self development is necessary for kids to improve.

    5 RB – not much depth, Robinsons can’t stay on the field.

    Special teams, DL, TE, and ILB seem to be in good shape. All that sums up to 8-4 for me.

    • I remain curious to see if Kirby goes after some trench guys in the spring portal. We need to bolster the line on both sides…defensively we did a little of that but the offensive side is young…and if no underclassmen could see the field based on what the starting five were doing, that’s worrisome.

      • I can see 8-4, I can see running the table in the regular season.

        I don’t see a National Title next year.
