Must Not See TV – Ratings from the CFP National Championship Game

Welp, the Committee believed they got the best matchups and the model worked. The best tournament in the histories of tournaments was played.

Eh, one problem, Mickey.

In retrospect, they would’ve been better off having Oregon play Clemson. Note to ESPN 2025: Ohio State must be eliminated…

I wonder what made the viewing tank…Notre Dame or Ohio State? Maybe both.

  1. Maybe the fact that the only part of the country that really cares about college football stretches from Texas/Oklahoma to Virginia.

Between that and the fact that every other fan base hates both schools, and people weren’t interested in hate watching 2 teams where there wasn’t a rooting interest on the other side.

  2. Having a team that most of the country dislikes can be good for viewership but, 2 teams most of the country dislikes isn’t.

  3. playing the game that long after the season is absurd. I forgot the game was coming on until my wife, who hates football, asked if I was going to watch the game.

  4. Rust Belt battles, especially between two programs many more people dislike than like, typically don’t interest viewers outside the Rust Belt. (Okay, ND does have a national following but it’s literally parochial.)

  5. It corrected it for three CFP llc: 2025’s game was the lowest rated final game in the 12 team playoff era. There.

  6. It wasn’t that less people watched (I didn’t), it’s that 20 million still did (and always will) and they’ll ride that into the ground and just make fewer eyes the loss leader for the whole thing. Look for some sort of spin that thanks to streaming, everybody in the history of everybody were actually watching it twice at the same time.

Also, when the ratings get lower it will be the “Fans'” “Fault.” The WorldWideLeader cain’t fail, they can only be failed.

  7. As much as those assholes hyperventilate about “national brands” and all that shit, nobody outside those two fan bases is interested in watching those teams. For the first time in my life I didn’t watch the NC.

    • You and me both. Have a buddy who is an Ohio State AND Notre Dame fan trying to text me all night. I told him he might be the only person in Statham, Georgia, that gave a shit.

  8. Just wait a year or two when ESPN makes everyone stream their content. Hello, PPV FEES! it will become pro boxing. The participants get rich, and nobody you know can name the current heavyweight champ. They’re going to learn taking CFB, stripping it for parts, and then trying to package what’s left (minus the parts we loved) isn’t such a great idea.

They can all go broke for being greedy.

  9. Do those numbers include both people who tuned into the Pat McAfee sideshow skycam sideline bro-tainment broadcast stream?

    • I just spewed White Claw all over my keyboard and my Zyn pouch flew out my nose and now my boss made me put my shirt on. Terrible day at the office.

      • I can’t believe your boss let’s you drink White Claw at work. White Claw will get you fired here, it’s Bourbon or Vodka by rule and on Fridays after lunch Tequila is allowed. 😉
