This afternoon Georgia and Ole Miss square off on a huge game between the hedges with SEC championship implications for both teams. A Georgia loss likely ends any hope to make it to Atlanta without lots of help. An Ole Miss loss doesn’t eliminate them but makes it difficult for them to reach Atlanta for the first time.
Let’s get to the preview.
When Georgia has the ball
As mentioned in the first look, Ole Miss has been susceptible to the run this year. That’s primarily because they don’t have the murderers’ row of defensive linemen they had last year. The Dawgs need to take advantage of that with a running game that has been productive except last week against Auburn. In 2023, when Georgia ran Ole Miss out of Sanford in a similar top 10 showdown, the Rebels had trouble containing the Georgia run game.
If the Georgia offensive line creates running lanes, I think it’s going to be very difficult for Ole Miss to stop the Dawgs as Georgia will be able to play this game at the pace we would like. Grind out first downs and take play-action shots off it.
When Ole Miss has the ball
Kiffin is going to throw the kitchen sink at the Georgia defense. He admitted they prepared for us during their off week prior to Washington State and during their in-week game preparation. Ole Miss has played one game this season away from Oxford. If Chambliss starts at QB, this will be his first road start.
Can the Georgia defense take away the run and make Ole Miss one-dimensional? If so, can the Georgia front get pressure? Can the home crowd make it difficult for the Rebels to communicate?
All of this will go a long way to determining if all our goals will still be in front of us on Saturday night.
What will happen
I’ll take a win today no matter how it happens. I do like this match-up because I don’t think Ole Miss has the defensive players that they had last year. Therefore, our offense is going to have to put pressure on the Rebels. Today would be a great time for the talented defense to shine with a fast start fueled by a raucous, striped-out crowd.
Final score: Georgia 38, Ole Miss 31
If you are counting on our offense to score 38, then you are a true believer. If our defense gives up 31 we are toast.
That’s fair. We scored 38 in regulation on Tennessee on the road. Ole Miss isn’t much better than Tennessee on defense.
