Now that the week of Georgia/Bobo criticisms have abated, it’s on to the inevitable: we are playing Alabama. It’s do or die (or at least make the path more challenging) for the Dawgs, and it’s easy to look down on our Dawgs when everyone else seems to be doing so great, especially since Tennessee just became a mortal lock to win it all by beating Oklahoma and NC State, right?
Something to consider:
You can’t deny it, the 2024 defense is really good, and has yet to play with a completely healthy defensive line. Also consider a few extra thoughts:
And this:
Not to mention that Clemson has been on an offensive tear since playing Georgia, and we still can’t deny that Kirby covered in that game comfortably. Mizzou just escaped a game against Vanderbilt, Alabama played some uncomfortable minutes against USF, and other teams have already seen their CFP dreams die in the opening weeks of the season (USC, Notre Dame, FSU). While the upcoming game puts a lot of us on edge, it should be noted that we have had a head-scratcher game at least once in the past few seasons, as do all teams. The key, still, is that you’ve got to come out with the W at the end.
Comparison and hypothetical reasoning is great, but the reality is going to kick in Saturday at 7:30. Here’s hoping we’ve had two weeks to get healthy and get the offense back on track.
My question is: will Kirby manball it or open the playbook and cut Beck loose. When Beck is “managed” he is not at his best. Turn him loose and he’ll win the game for us. We must get the tackling squared away or we’re screwed.
This has always been the narrative for us, even in the last few years of dominance. When Bama pulls out a close one, it’s due to the brilliance of . When it’s the Dawgs, we squeaked out a win because Kirby can’t coach or we have a lousy QB or any of a million other reasons the media seems to have in their handbook.
Not just the media some of our own fan base is guilty of this.
This is why it’s hard to feel much of anything about this game for me.
Special Teams? Great.
Defense? Excellent, except for some yards after contact that we aren’t used to seeing.
Offense? I dunno. It felt to me that our players went out there last week and were told “if you just do your job good things will happen, don’t force it”. Well, just seemed like they were too patient and waiting for plays to be made rather than taking control and making things happen.
Do they have another gear, so to speak? We won’t know until game time. I don’t know how or why people would say “Dawgs are going to win”. From my view I would not lean either way, just a wait and see what happens.
I will allow Willie S. to sum it up…
“And Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice
Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth“
Hopefully the OL/TEs and RBs blocking incompetence has been corrected with the bye week. So many missed blocks/assignments forced Beck to panic way too much and closed holes that were opening for Etienne and co.
It’s time…
Well if we lose and they only score 24 I’m sure it will be the defenses fault.
Kirby’s got let the offense loose. Win or lose. Dillion. Bell where are you?
I keep seeing last years SECCG in my head, where Beck is clearly seen saying “what the hell are we doing?” Either way this game is super exciting. But, I’m hyper Munsoning right now
Might I suggest a 500mg Placidyl and a few cold beers. All the worry will run out of your body and regardless of the outcome all will be okay. Go DAWGS.
