The SEC revealed a few more times for games, including our Tennessee Tech tilt at 2 pm (?), and, get this…Georgia Tech on Black Friday at 7:30 pm.
Being a Georgia Southern graduate (after my UGA degree), I came to respect the triple option and Paul Johnson’s offensive concepts, which has helped teams like Army, Navy, and the Air Force relevant against bigger and faster competition. Regulations that prevented cut blocking, which was integral to the offensive line play, severely hampered its effectiveness and lead to CPJ’s demise.
But the long held mantra “plays with a high school offense” in turn lead to Geoff Collins, and now we’re playing on Friday Night Lights. Thanks, Fish Fry, for nothing.
Freaking nerds.
O can’t remember which commenter said it at GTP but somebody described Paul Johnson as “A mid level management type who goes out to a bar after work with coworkers, gets hammered, and screams at the college age girl behind the bar for not being fast enough.” Seems accurate. Never could stand that guy.
Fish Fry/Turkey Neck has one of the most punchable faces in sports. Watching his frustration as Roquan ran from sideline to sideline untouched throwing his QB and backs around like rag dolls was chicken soup for this Dawg’s soul.
I don’t mind the game being on black Friday because it’s on a holiday weekend; kind of like week one when you have games on five straight days. I will, however, pitch a fit if they start scheduling us on any other Friday. Or any day of the week that’s not Saturday as God intended. Now get off my lawn.
My main problem with the Friday game is the traffic is going to be horrific with students returning from Thanksgiving break on top of normal game traffic unless they are coming with parents or others and the fact that the GHSA semifinals are played across the state that night.
I don’t mind playing on Friday after Thanksgiving. That entire stretch from Thursday through Saturday is reserved for CFB in my mind. Black Friday really isn’t a thing anymore now with all the online shopping.
Black Friday is definitely still a thing. It may be spread out over a few days and online, but many people are still at the big box stores waiting to buy whatever.
Yes we will disagree on this one and I believe we tend to agree far more than we don’t. The Stet’s flipphone blog is gone from yesterday’s conversation on this.
I live walking distance from an outlet mall and I don’t see traffic being a big difference between Friday and Saturday on Thanksgiving weekend. It is still a thing but not the madness it was.
You do have a complaint with the GHSA semifinals, everything has trade offs. I’ll take Friday at 730 over Saturday at noon.
UGA GT is not a marquee match up for Thanksgiving weekend. I still love the game but there are more interesting games nationally. It will remain that way until GT improves. If I were a recruit looking to get a ticket to a Rivalry weekend game, I’d move UGA to UT Knoxville or Auburn and pick another game. UGA is recruiting nationally and these kids have plenty of options.
Sorry I took it down, Otto. There’s some function in WordPress that anchored it to the top and I couldn’t figure out how to unstick it so I scrubbed it. No offense to any of the commenters, just a little operational clean up.
Not a problem I was going to like and reply to Thomas ‘s comment. Yesterday but saw it on a device that wasn’t logged in.
Bama and Kentucky 7:30 kick offs
I will now refer to it as Red & Black Friday
