  1. Hope the banner contest is still in the works, I’m looking forward to seeing the different suggestions. Also, having everyone vote should make it a lot of fun.

I’m way more concerned about football, so it really only bothers me briefly this time each year, but is there any logical explanation as to why our basketball program can’t find 10 tall guys around the state that can ball so we can field a team that can at least sniff at the tournament every other year or so? Really as big of a deal that UGA is in the state and nationally, it doesn’t make sense that we can’t make the tourney every year? The coaches usually seem like trying their asses of, but we always suck when it comes down to SEC play. I’m at a loss?

    • You (not you personally) have to have an AD that gives a shit about Hoops! And we (UGA) don’t! So many options available @ HC other than Gator Mike. Cut our losses now and get serious about Hoops!

      • It would be awesome to see the Hoop Dawgs in late March but anything that distracts Josh Brooks from getting Kirby everything he needs is a non starter for me. I personally don’t want to find out how much more multitasking Brooks can do.

      They are recommending that March Madness be expanded to 90 teams. If that happens, maybe we’ll make it every few years.

    • What makes it hard is that those 10 tall guys in the State who can ball the best are signing with our opponents each year.

      • Softball Dawgs look to be for real. I’m still on wait and see with the guys, but early returns are promising.

        I really hope Jared Wilson or someone can give us solid reps for SVP-G.

    • Very important spring practice. We have 28 new guys that are expected to contribute in some way next year, and they have a lot to learn. We need DLmen to step up and be stars. We need OLmen to fill out two teams of good players. We need the talent that is available at running back to learn the system and be ready to go the first game of the year. We need special teams to be ready. We need that special WR to step up and take control, he has a lot to replace (whomever that person may be). Yes, this spring practice is going to be very important.

  9. Any bourbon fans? I have found 2 stores in and around the metro Atlanta area with better than average selections and solid pricing…Tap House in Fairburn, Sigman Package in Conyers. Do you guys have any recommendations?

      • I’m a Tennessee(yeah, I know!) Whiskey fan myself. Big fan of the JD Bottled in Bond. originally a Traveler’s Exclusive but now available domestically. Stands up to mixers better than 80 proof JD.

        When I’m not drinking Jack, I like Maker’s Mark, Four Roses and OldFitzgerald when I’m slummin’.

        • For some reason it would not let me reply in the proper space. The Sandman video that I saw was just a bunch of pictures set to the music with RR’s beloved “Gotdam Hippies”. I would love the link to the one you are referencing.

          As for the spirits, I have nice little bottle of Eagle Rare in my locker at our watering hole. Quite tasty.

    • I’ll look into those, thank you. Tower Package and Grapes & Grains too. They get all the best stuff and will do “drops” on occasion, but you have to be ready to pounce when they do. Or, buy a bunch of other stuff from them and build relationships and occasionally they will bring something out from the vault for you. I’ve heard Jax in Buford is good too.

      • I will certainly hit up both spots. Thanks! I have settled on just a couple of spots in an attempt to build relationships. If you are fan of Buffalo Trace products, I highly recommend Sigman Package in Conyers. They are currently running deals. You can even grab a Stagg Jr., EH Taylor small Batch or Blanton’s at MRSP with the purchase of store pick or two. Best deal I have seen recently in the metro area. The EH Taylor is a great bottle, just can’t ever find it for reasonable prices.

        • I’ll check out Sigman Package for sure! I’m a big fan of Taylor Small Batch and Single Barrel when it’s available. I sampled the BTAC George T. Stagg over the weekend and although excellent, I didn’t find it significantly better than Stagg Jr., so maybe not worth the extra bucks unless you get it for MSRP. I was also lucky enough to try the BTAC W.L Weller and it’s as advertised as being one of the best out there. It’s high proof, high viscosity, and super smooth. I’m supposed to be getting an Old Rip at MSRP (relationships!) this week, so hopefully that goes as planned. If you can stand all of the Instagram chatter, get on Tower and Grapes & Grains for the info on the drops and lotteries. Cheers!

Fear not, spring practice starts in 48 hours, when we can start talking about RB and WR depth charts, who plays LG and RT, how ILB gets sorted out, what cream rises to the top in the secondary and whether Mikel loses weight and moves to EDGE permanently or Damon Wilson and Sam M’Pemba make that move unnecessary.

    They’ve opened my eyes to a lot of bourbons and whiskeys I didn’t know about. I was stuck in the Buffalo Trace maze forever, and still love their products, but there is plenty of other good stuff out there too, some not too hard to find. Can’t wait to pour one in the fall on game day. Those are always the best!

    • I’m really surprised at how drinkable some of the popular priced offerings really are.

      • Wild Turkey 101 or Jim Beam Single Barrel are plenty good enough for the likes of me.
