Good morning. Well, we’ve respectfully and quietly stood by for a month. I intend to move ahead this week with ramping up the blog and opening it up for those who have said they would contribute. Those of you who have email invites to join as contributors… I’m ready to turn y’all loose.
I’ll be back with another post with more details later today. Until then, talk amongst yourselves.
Go Dawgs!
Will there be any attempt to feel out the family’s intentions for GTP ?
Good question. Also (and I’m certain there are others), why do I still go there first thing every morning and refuse to delete it from my bookmarks?
Same reason some leave their relatives’ voices on the answering machine/service for years!
Because you are, like me, wondering if the Senator’s family will have something else to say, or will hand the blog off to someone else.
yep. The webpage is still open on the phone.
Denial I suppose. I knew it would end someday and it would suck. Didn’t think it would be so soon tho. I’m only a few years older.
Does anyone that has a personal contact with the family feel that they could reach out to them? I have no relationship with them at all, wouldn’t know where to begin. But, if someone wants to reach out, I’ll keep my powder dry a while longer.
I may have a contact. Stay tuned!
Sounds good, will do!
Otis and everyone that will be involved THANK YOU – for stepping up
Kicking Spurrier’s ass. Ain’t it great to be a Georgia Bulldawg?
When and Where Will Kirby Smart Reach Win No. 100 at Georgia? (msn.com)
Sure as shit puts a spring in my step!!!
Somewhere deep inside mine Red and Black soul, every moment, what ever the event, change in wind direction that UGA beats FU is in fact a beat down of the old ball sack….#FTMF!!
I’m so glad you’re doing this, and that I found this site. I followed the Senator for years, but I didn’t comment often. Mainly because, for some reason, my posts never made it through. I emailed him occasionally about this and he would have to manually give my posts a pass. I decided not to burden him with figuring out why. Regardless, hopefully this post shows up and I can contribute more here.
Glad you found it! Really important for all of the unfortunate Dawg Fans living behind enemy lines.
Think of it as “Radio Free Dawgs”!!
I’m was in NC for many years, and that felt like living on the other side of the world. Pure ACC country with hardly an SEC logo to be found. Now I’m been in SC the last few years and at first I was overwhelmed (or nauseated) by the amount of Clemson and USCjr flags. But there are plenty of Dawg fans in the area, and we all show our pride. So it’s not so bad.
I am completely and thoroughly in favor of respecting the family’s wishes about GTP. At the same time, my experience over the past 25 years of surfing is that blogs aren’t passed on, they just lie there untended. If you are lucky and want to access a blog for what amounts to archives you can, but often enough, after time passes you get a ‘404 – file not found’. If you went to GTP and looked at the blogroll list and click on them many are not available at all and a good number of the ones that are available haven’t had entry in months, sometimes years. It may also be a signal that you can’t post over at GTP any more.
All I am saying is that if someone from the family asks you not to pursue this piggyback blog, then probably you should respect that. But I don’t think you need to wait for a formal imprimatur. I am sure the family has more on their plate right now.
I could understand the family not wanting to give up the GTP domain name. They would probably like to keep all of The Senator’s past writings as well for their own. Hopefully the site will stay up indefinately but I’d guess eventually a bill won’t be paid and we will get the 404 error you talked about.
But I’m not sure what you mean by “asks you not to pursue this piggyback blog”. Looks like Otis is trying to do his own thing here. Especially with bring in contributing writers which is something we never had at GTP.
Just that Otis seems concerned about respect for the family’s wishes. Worst case scenario in my opinion is you might have to change something in the name. I agree with you that while this blog is perhaps inspired by Get The Picture, it is a whole separate thing now.
Perhaps I can ease some of the concerns regarding the family and the blog. The 30 Day mourning period is over now. Therefore there shouldn’t be any problem with reaching out about the blog. It should have absolutely nothing to do with what’s being done here on this page, so let’s plug away! Of course, if we can get the original page, so much the better. I think they would be touched by any interest we show them in continuing the Senator’s page. Hope this helps.
We’ve been patient, as we should have been, and waited the respectable time before making a move. I don’t see what waiting a few more days will hurt if someone is able to reach out and gauge their feelings.
Those that have said they’d like to contribute posts can go ahead and start writing. If you need any assistance, reach out to me and I will help however I can.
Took a spin around the Senator’s blogroll for the first time in many years and, yeah, time is relentless. Some stopped in the middle of a season. A couple got the victory lap with the win in Indy and shut down. One hadn’t posted since 2007.
Have any of y’all seen Bill Connelly’s post this morning on ESPN+ about how a college football playoff would have played out since 1966 (under certain predetermined criteria)? I think the Senator would have eaten it up, and it makes me happy and sad to have that thought.
Anyway, Dawgs would have won 4 titles using Bill’s set of circumstances — one in the 80s and a three-peat (and lost several other championship games). Worth a look.
A few weeks ago, Georgia announced its annual G-Day spring game will be on Saturday, April 13. On Monday, we learned when the scrimmage will kick off and where fans can watch.
ESPN announced that G-Day will kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be available on ESPN+ and SEC Network+. The spring game will be the last of 15 spring practices for the Bulldogs as they continue preparing for the 2024 season.
Right in the middle of moving day at the Masters … the absolute worst time for this. I guess Josh is hoping people will show up for the 1st half before heading back to their tailgates or downtown when CBS coverage starts.
1 PM on Masters Saturday? I’ll be in the stands on no 4, working on my third beer and second pimento cheese sandwich.
Nah, Gurkha! You ain’t done the Masters ’til you’ve had the cold BBQ sandwich and the Chicken Breast on half a bun!!
Miss the Senator, glad to have this. Looking forward to the season.
