High School Hall of Fame

Congrats to our Dawgs who made the most recent list of inductees into the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame:

I haven’t thought about Hutson Mason in a minute. Who stands out to you on the list?

  1. Got trucked by Jerry Mays in HS once…coach was not impressed & ripped me a new one.

  2. every time I see Ben Zambiasi’s name, I think about the story of him picking a fight with a FIJI dude down at The Station and getting pummeled, then seeing the same guy a few days later, demanding a rematch, and getting pummeled again. Maybe Zambiasi should have challenged him to an Oklahoma drill, or a few rounds of Bull in the Ring. Good times.

  3. Disappointed that Robert Toomer still hasn’t made it in. The guy was the definition of a workhorse tailback in the late 80s/early 90s. I believe he held the national record for rushing TDs and the state record for most yards rushing for quite some time. He got hurt at LSU and never really had the chance to prove it on the field.

I don’t get the Hutson Mason thing at all.

    • Hutson held the state record for passing yards and TDs in a season I believe while at Lassiter.

      • Yes, that’s true. I think there’s a recency bias and that he started at Georgia for one year that has gotten him in.

  4. I didn’t know Frank Broyles went to tech. And to think I always liked him…

  5. Demaryius Thomas, may he Rest in Peace. Don’t remember much about him at Tech except that he stayed after they hired Fish Fry and his triple option. Really liked him in the NFL. Died a few years ago from a seizure. By all accounts I’ve heard he was a great guy.

  6. They’ve got Robert Lavette shown as a QB, but he was a RB. He was supposed to be the next Herschel because he rused for 2,000-plus yards in his senior year of HS.
