Hateful Eight

In the midst of CFP season, you know people are out there hating on the “SEC bias” that is allowing so much credibility to the conference while ACC potential champ Georgia Tech boasts a schedule of no ranked wins and Ohio State (save for Texas, I guess) hasn’t played a team with a pulse since week 1.

Some people like the SEC hate and embrace it. Some people might be Greg Sankey:

  1. The committee needs to be abolished.
    Do some ranking of tge ap, coaches polls & BCS formula.
    Go ahead & expand to 16 & take the top ranked 16.

  2. If the SEC gets 8 teams in, you can bet top dollar that there will be radical changes to the CFP next year. Likely auto bids, but i wouldn’t be surprised to see an expansion to 16 or 24. These other difficult conferences won’t stand for that level of merit-based seeding.

    Yesterday I heard speculation that the ACC champ might not be one of the 5 top ranked conference champs. How hilarious would that be if they were left out and James Madison and SE Idaho Tech or whoever got in!

  5. I am liking Sankey less and less. Am I the only one who thinks it’s a bad look for him to be talking to committee members about how many bids his conference will get? If I did it, not sure I’d brag about it!

  7. The vapor trail of carnage the Disney (un)Reality College Football Show leaves behind is striking. At least there’s no self-respect for the conference show ponies and committee to lose in all their media preening.

  10. Kind of ridiculous for Sankey to say that. At most we’ll have 5 & that’s only if everything falls right the next three weeks.

        Sankey is using hyperbole to offset the ridiculous and delusional claims that the B1G is the SEC’s equal or even better.
        The B1G has their salesmen in the announcing booths and at the committee’s table.
        This is a pre-emptive strike against their BS.

        • Yes, isn’t this law school 101; blow the opposing party’s mind with an insane claim/initial offer & then make them feel like they done good when they only half to pay half as much/get f’d half as bad?!? Believe me, this tactic was skillfully deployed in my divorce!!

  11. Auburn does suck..but Auburn would be at or near the top of the B1G or ACC this year (pre-Freeze’s firing)..(That’s a darn good defense.) Same can be said for Tennessee and FU and Vandy…or any other presently second tier SEC team..they would have thrived in the lesser conferences. So it is every year, despite the horse-crap the Yankee announcers try to sell everyone.

  12. This is all about the December 1st deadline for finalizing the 2027 playoffs. Part two of that power struggle is only the b10/20 demand guaranteed slots. The other conferences are onboard with let the best 16 play off. Part three the b10/20 are seriously considering selling a 20 year partial grant of media rights for around $2,500,000,000. If done each of their schools would get a minimum of 100 million right away. It’s reported only USC is a hard no, tOSU and Michigan are softer no’s. The majority of the schools are desperate for cash now.

    As always with the rulers of CFB Greg’s reasoning was self serving and as always about the money. Not that he’s wrong the best teams are in his conference they should have more playoff spots then the top heavy b10/20 this season. Any committee working under the current rules will never allow the SEC that many entries into their playoff. Which makes part four the playoff committee useless. Just seed the top 16 for 2027 with group of 5 allowed one team. That makes Greg and his bosses along with the b12 and ACC happy the b10/20 not so much.

  13. Talk about 8 to support 5 or 6. More money for Reynolds Aluminum. Official hat vendor for SEC haters everywhere.

  14. Somebody take the bottle away from Greg. We will get 3 or 4. ND will get one because they are ND. The B1G will get as many as we do or they will be pissed off. ACC will get 2, the rest of the unknown conferences are screwed.

    • The only way the ACC gets two teams is if Tech wins out (including beating us) and loses the ACC championship (winner gets an auto bid), or if Pitt beats ND and knocks them out of the CFP.
