Ever been curious how much one of those receivers or offensive linemen will cost a program out of the portal? Well, the Athletic has news for you!
Does this explain Kirby’s Portal strategy…being a spend thrift? And if we paid Modozie that much money to ride the line, I can’t blame Kirby for wanting to dance with the dates that brought ya.
Or, it’s basic supply and demand. A lot more receivers and DBs floating around out there looking for a new home, so value shop while you can, I suppose.
FWIW, they said on the radio yesterday that about a third of the players are in The Portal (TM); add that to the 15-25% who are out of eligibility and/or going to the draft early, and that creates a lot of roster turnover…..
Were they saying this on the radio for the average FBS team, or average power 5 team, or were they talking about the Dawgs specifically? I hope that’s not the Dawg’s portal numbers, but I guess it’s possible in these new times.
Well if anybody thinks college football can keep this up, they are crazy. The boosters are only going to give to teams that are in the hunt, the rest are going to say screw it. The old haves and have nots are going to further separate. I guess it’s time to create the super league and let the others just go goodbye.
Imagine leaving West Point and finding out discipline and physical training is tougher in Athens.
A million here, a million there and it begins to add up to a payroll expense that demands an ROI on winning. Yet the 9 game schedule and parity driven playoffs will mute that ability. In theory this isn’t sustainable but the money supply is nearly unlimited and based on passion not principles of investing so who knows.
