Don’t mind what the calendar says, it’s playoff time! GTP Refugees decided to have some fun upgrading its banner image at the top of the page. You, kind readers, will determine which image sits atop this blog through a method that is fully sanctioned and endorsed by the NCAA: the bowl system . . . er, BCS . . . um, playoffs! And who doesn’t love a playoff, amirite? As most of you know, Get the Picture had an iconic picture of Coach Dooley sporting a slick 70’s, wide collared shirt sitting next to the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown. We’ll see which image wins for the Refugees.
This will be a 16-image playoff. In order to narrow the field to 16 images, we’ve got a play-in round that starts today. Pick your favorite of these four images in the poll below and the winner advances to the field of 16. The next round goes up in a week’s time, so get your votes in early. And with that, here’s today’s choices:

Kirby and Cuevo.
I think Kirby and Quevo (note the Q🙂) is a nice nod to the Senator’s classic Dooley and James Brown banner. A new banner for a new generation of the blog, so to speak. I’m sure there are other banners that would be fine. Heck, since Otis got this thing cranked up, we havent had anything but a generic banner, and things really seem to be going pretty well. It just seems Kirby and Quevo, like a good area rug, ties the whole room together.
I should add that I don’t know a single song by Migos or Quevo, I don’t really care for rap, I’m older than dirt. But I understand that the players know and like him, and isn’t it really their team more than anyone’s? Today’s students and younger fans relate to this, too, I suspect. Back in 76, when “Dooley’s Junkyard Dogs” was rocking the Cocktail Party halftime show, and I was jamming as an undergrad seeing it live, I’m sure the old guys were thinking “what is this?” But they just ran with it.
if it’s crazy and it works, it’s not crazy. A nearly 50 year old white dude from Bainbridge embracing a rapper from Gwinnett County (and born in Athens, btw) is crazy. Maybe not as crazy as the famously stodgy Vince Dooley embracing The Godfather of Soul, but still kind of a stunner. But it works. It’s a familiar concept, freshened up for a new era of UGA football. To me, that makes it not crazy at all, and the ideal banner for this place.
I also like that Quevo is rocking the NC hat. That’s the standard under Kirby. We won’t always hit it, but we are always striving for it.
I voted for Lindsay but your explanation of Kirby and Quavo (I didn’t even know who that was) is a good explanation for how it ties back to Dooley and JB.

I didn’t vote for Blutarsky to be the banner, but it should be incorporated somewhere on the front page
RangerRuss would have voted for UGA Pirate (maybe). I’m with him as this blog harkens back to the days of pirate radio. IYKYK.
If anybody has Photoshop skills I’d go for a pic of the old header with VD & JB, along with our beloved late Senator Blutarsky sitting with them. Legends and DGD’s – all of ’em.
I like that idea, particularly if The Senator’s pic is at a tailgate or something similar. But it needs to someone with skills – I only know Photoshop exists.
I’m OK with the Quavo picture. I also like the Uga Pirate. I will also note that I used to have the same shot of Bluto as the wallpaper on my phone.
Kirby and Quavo makes the most sense since it mirrors the Dooley and James Brown banner. There really is no other option.
The other options are really generic with the exception of the Belushi picture, which is great, but is too much of an inside joke for future non-refugees who will later discover this blog (assuming a goal is to expand viewership).

Well, I meant no other option in terms of this specific poll of 4. I will tell you right now that if any of the other 12 pictures has Heidi Klum in it, I’m voting for it.
Ya’ll are way off the mark, CKS and whom ever is one topic…is the Godfather of soul performing “Dooleys Junkyard Dawgs” in Sanford Stadium not the greatest evah, timeless photo of the Godfather of Soul and Coach Dooley making some serious fashion statements, chattin’ it up is the bestest evah…don’t know what or how refugees find their way, I’m from the waybacmachine zone, maybe the Senators favorite brew could be a header….GO DAWGS!!…(am good with a header of all UGA football trophies)
While Lindsay Scott is as iconic of a play as HW/Bates or Ringo’s pick 6, it should be Kirby/Quavo as a nod to the Dooley/JB banner from the original GTP.
That pirate dawg is just plain awful & gives me “gasparilla bowl”/cross dresser nightmare vibes. Please don’t let this be the banner!
Process of elimination leads me to Quavo banner even though I think site is more deserving of a better image. I get the symbolism but just not moving needle for me. Now get off my lawn!
Its not the same as Vince and James Brown sitting next to each other chillin with Vince’s 70’s style shirt, and JB leather jacket with no shirt. If we get Quavo and Kirbs to do that, its a winner!
