Garrisoned

Congrats to a damned good Dawg…

Hearst excelled during his time at Georgia and was one of many Bulldogs who helped the program earn the claim of “RBU.” A native of Lincolnton, Georgia, Hearst rushed for 3,232 yards and 33 touchdowns from 1990-92 and left Georgia second only behind Herschel Walker in career rushing yards.

Hearst’s 1992 campaign for the Bulldogs was truly impressive. The junior tailback won the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s top running back and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting after rushing for a career-best 1,547 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Here’s some highlights to warm a cold Thursday:

Go Dawgs!

Now, lets talk about Erk, shall we?

  1. Garrison Hearst is the 2nd most talented running back to play at UGA. Power, speed, elusiveness, ability to catch the ball … he had it all. If not for the serious injuries he had in the NFL, I believe he would have ended up with a golden blazer and a bust in Canton.

  2. Great clip and my two main memories of Hearst were in there. One was the run against Vandy when he ran parallel to the los and cut upfield what looked like inches from the sideline. Second was his calves. I played intramural softball with a bunch of football players. His calves were huge. Looked like someone shoved a 10 pound diamond into his legs.

  3. My favorite memory of Hearst is seeing last HS Game in Lincolnton.

Lincoln beat Bowden 24-7 for the single A state championship in 1989.

Hearst had a rushing td, a passing td, an interception return for a td, kicked all 3 extra points and the FG, plus he was the punter.

Ray was there too. As was this bitch:

    • With the current of NCCA governance Hershel might get one more year. Of course there would some caveat like anywhere but Georgia.

  5. Garrison’s last game as a Dawg in the old Citrus Bowl contributed to Herbstreit’s dislike of Georgia as he stood on the sidelines watching the team he quarterbacked lose. At the end of the game, Dawg fans were chanting “One More Year!” as Hurst left the field. What I remember is Garrison smiled and waved and then was gone to the NFL. This was back when bowl games were still important.

  6. I had class with Garrison. He sat in the front row every day and was very friendly whenever I talked to him. He was a freshman then and not a superstar yet but he was definitely a down to earth friendly normal college guy. I’m still pissed off that he didn’t introduce me to any cheerleaders. That’s my only complaint.

  7. Got robbed for the Heisman in ’92, honestly. Gino Torretta?! Please.
