Game Day Post from the WABAC Machine

I heard some requests to have the WABAC machine go to a happier time, so let’s dial it back to a happier moment that can make our Mondays a little more enjoyable. Here goes…see if you can nail down the game.

Where to today, Mr. Peabody? To our happy place, Sherman.

It’s game day. We are favored in this one but I have to say that our opponent caught last week’s team looking ahead, and suddenly the Cinderella upstarts are the media darlings and you’ve got to worry about a team lead by a physical running quarterback who can sling the ball around, too, especially after we were sliced and diced last week by another elite QB until we pulled off the victory in the remaining minute of the game.

I also wonder about our team’s energy right now. The last game was probably one of the best I’ve ever seen, but had to be physically and emotionally exhausting and I suspect that coach has kept them focused and pointing to the media hype the other team is getting. If we take them lightly, we could be in for another four quarters of a fight. When the season began no one saw them coming, but I have faith in our coaches to have studied enough in the recent weeks to know enough to win.

The X factor today is that we’ve been here before, and they haven’t, and our guys know what it takes to finish the drill.

And let me just say, I never thought I’d be saying that in my years as a Dawg fan. What a time to be alive.

Think you know the game? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Speaking of the Wabac machine – there is a website [archive.org] that is collecting and making available everything that has ever been on the web or printed including magazines, books and newspapers. It’s a work in progress – and it is being sued by publishers and music companies which I can see except that in the old days much of print media was available free on microfiche in the library, but I digress. It is pretty wonky – I found an SI article on the ND game from 1981, but didn’t mark it and then couldn’t get back, but still something to know about if you get curious.

    • It is one of the services that crawls/archives the internet, like google, and caches the pages. https://wayback-api.archive.org/ I fat-thumbed my website recently (getting old ain’t for the faint of heart or mind) and was able to recover most of it from the wayback

    • Yep. The “worry” part threw me off…. I saw nothing but validation coming. Now I was in fact very overconfident the week before…and it cost me…a lot. Only legal bet I’ve made, ever. Sorry. The close call was probably my fault. But even my Eddie Mush-like poor luck at all things gambling couldn’t hold back Stetson FUCKING Bennett.
I just couldn’t see a team that lost to UM in back to back years giving us problems. But the NFL ROTY 2023 showed up to ball out. Special thanks to Mr. Bullard!
