Added chaser, because everything’s bigger in Texas:
Now we see why Sark went with a banged up Ewers all season long. After yesterday’s egg laying in “the greatest college football game of all time” (per the pointless drivel called commentary), I’m not so sure that Texas will be the offensive juggernaut people were making them out to be. Granted, tOSU has a great defense and a former 3x Super Bowl winner DC in Matt Patricia, but aside from that, Manning looked confused, out of his element, and his mechanics were, well, confusing. Side armed throws for no reason and errant throws were not a good look for the Royal Family of Quarterbacks.
Hey, at least ticket prices for home games might be coming down now.
That DC for OSU is concerning. Looks like they made a good hire there.
Is that X video real?
I believe it is? Honestly, my hesitancy to worry about Arch is the same I had with Eason and VandaGriff…being a physically imposing specimen against undertalented 5’8” athletes doesn’t really translate to competing with the size and speed of college football.
Don’t forget that the same arguments were made against Herschel when he came out because he played in the lowest class in the state as did Garrison. Kirby was hot and heavy after Arch, so he saw something in him as well (glad we missed or backed off). That said, there are plenty of “great players” that seem to have reached their peak greatness in HS and never progress any further even though they were generational “can’t miss prospects” (Think Ray Drew) based on their physical attributes. I saw some pundits were wondering if he has a shoulder problem since he seemed to be throwing a lot of side arm and weak throws. Maybe its mental. Maybe it was “The Great Sark” calling a shitty game. Maybe he just doesn’t have the “it” like Stetson did. Regardless of the reason he looked really bad. No matter what happens the rest of the year, he will never live up to the hype. Having to live amongst these burnt orange assholes every day, the more they lose the better my day no matter the reason.
At one time we had three starters from Class A Lincoln county high school. There was Hearst, Dewayne Simmons and Curt Douglas.
Which is insane…
Lincoln has had some pretty dang good teams in the past. Have seen plenty of smaller schools thru the years that would beat most larger schools (classifications)
Mary Persons and Americus are a couple that come to mind – and there are more.
Those mechanics were ugly and seem to throw off the receivers. My guess is that Arch doesn’t throw like that in a non-contact jersey.
He was incapable of making any throws under pressure. Rarely looked like a legit sec starter much less a budding star.
I will note that both defenses seemed to me to be extremely well coached and talented.
Keeping Smith bottled up all day ain’t easy.
First two paragraphs apply equally to Simpson…. Sark would have been crucified if he had gone out and gotten a transfer to come in over Arch, but Bama has seen Simpson for 2-3 years and thought “we’ll go with this guy”?
I was watching us…
He was warming up his shoulders all day. I was wondering about his health too but don’t recall any hits to his shoulders either.
Arch did nothing to inflame the expectations. I almost feel sorry for him. The kid is talented, but is he a gamer like say a Tua, Stetson, Jake, Burreaux, Bryce Young, or even Mac Jones?
F-bum is probably not going to have a good day tomorrow between Arch’s performance and the Bama meltdown.
What are you talking about, this is Grade-A catnip for the F-bomb crew….
My point is Finebaum’s comment about Arch is the best college QB since Tebow and how the Noles are going to come out of the woodwork to berate the Bammers and him.
Can’t remember the precise quote, but I believe it was Norma Desmond who said, “better for them to be talking bad about you, than not talking about you at all” -that is F-bomb’s philosophy every day of the week….
Fbomb is Jon Stewart of college football. He can sit around and pontificate and act like he knows things and when it works out he can point to it as proof that he should be taken seriously. When it doesn’t and he’s dead wrong he can just shrug and go, “What do I know? I just host a wacky TV show.”
Same script every year in Austin. Texass is back. Then an early loss, then a loss to OU which is coming. Season over by October. Playoffs and schedule got them in the dance last year without a conference title and two losses to us but it’s still all the same. Time for Matthew to go make a movie.
Horns offense looked like a mess against an Ohio St. defense that returned Downs but lost about everybody else. Crappy coaching job by Sark, IMO. Manning throwing those worm-burners to open receivers should be setting off alarm bells in Austin. Texas defense is good enough to keep them in most games, but it could be a long year if Manning doesn’t get better, quickly.
Just a damn shame the tea sips are now in the SEC!
Even the so-called “offensive genius Steve Sarkesian” couldn’t overcome Arch’s awful play and OSU’s stacked D.
Much like his play against us last year, Arch gets rattled when pressured even a little bit. He can run so he’s not afraid to get hit, but when he’s in the pocket he looks like a guy who got injured and can’t get his confidence back. I’m sure he’ll have better days, but much like the Spurrier QBs back at FU, the key will be to hit him and keep hitting him every play (even if a bit late) to make him a bit nervous in the service. That’s one thing that never seemed to bother Stet.
I’m here for it.
Gunner seems to like contact, too.
I would caution against saying there is overhype against Arch. Something was weird about his throwing motion and he seemed to be constantly stretching his shoulders yesterday.
I don’t recall him throwing sidearm last year?
Either way horns down.
If they are playing him hurt they might have big problems.
I would still say Arch is overhyped. I agree, he may be injured, but if he were 100%, he still wouldn’t live up to all the hype. He would have to be Joe Montana, Uncle Peyton, and Tom Brady with a splash of Mahomes all rolled into one to equal all the hype bestowed upon him. That may be part of his problem. Trying to live up to a standard that is unreachable.
SAW ‘EM OFF!!
Matt Patricia has plenty of experience playing – and losing to – a QB named Manning. At this point he said NO MORE…& went out and proved he had the cure. I’m sure he studied what Kirby did to him last year, and tried to dial it up a notch.
