Folks are starting to get a little antsy about Kirby’s 2027 recruiting class.
Aside from landing the nation’s number 1 running back in Kemon Spell and a possible (let’s not hold our breath, here) non-verbal from a blue chip QB, folks are getting overly antsy about the recent recruiting pickups in Kirby’s class…all three stars.
Quick reminder about those stars when it comes to CJ Allen, Quay Walker, and Jordan Davis, all of which were three stars and even now it’s reminder that it’s June 1st, and there’s lots of camps and evaluations that will come to pass that will likely push these guys up to four stars or higher once they start to make a splash. Not to mention that the almighty dollar can always bring that star count up, too.
Georgia currently has the 22nd ranked recruiting class according to the On3/Rivals recruiting rankings, and it should be noted that early commitments to Georgia that are four or five stars have been shown to do so only to receive richer offers to other schools (looking judgingly at you, Miami), so there will be further moving and shaking.
Oddly, Indiana has the #30 ranked recruiting class. Why isn’t anyone panicking over that? It’s as though Kirby never heard of the portal and NIL and doesn’t know how to use it? Hmm.
Of course, there are people out there that feel that Atlanta’s loss to Cincinnati yesterday means the season’s over, even if we’re 20 games above 500 right now.
Sports, and sports fans, are interesting things to behold.
Don’t follow recruiting. My kids are grown and out of the house – why would I want to be disappointed by the erratic decisions of 17-year old teenagers who aren’t even mine…
It’s clickbait. Kirby recruits at a high level. I’d like to see Chance Gilbert commit, he goes to the same HS as my daughter. Other than him I could care less.
Like the swallows returning to Capistrano. The annual way too early freakout over Kirby’s recruiting class ranking has begun.
In this day and age I am sure one thing we can trust are the star rating people who would NEVER accept a bribe to spike a rating so a kid can get a better NIL deal and bigger cut for his agent. Everyone is too honest and transparent for that plus the NCAA is sure to be on top of it.
Or…
…Kirby knows what’s going on and expertly recruiting around it.
A scant few years ago, if a kid got recruited by Bama then he was automatically a 4 or 5 star simply because Saban showed interest (and in fairness, the Bama staff could definitely coach them up).
Now, the ratings guys probably don’t know where to go for their baseline. Kirby turns 3 stars into 5’s, whereas Sark seems to do the opposite…
Kirby will keep the main thing the main thing. I also don’t follow recruiting very close. Dealing with 18 yr old kids that change their minds me like the wind. We will be fine!! Go Dawgs!!
Kirby doesn’t have any choice but to chase value and trust evaluations of talent, ceiling and character.
The days of stacking 5 stars are over for everyone.
In fact, you might find their prima donna asses to be liabilities.
Good luck to the ones who are cutting big checks to high schoolers and managing their candy asses.
There was a time when the path to a natty depended on stacking top three classes over and over.
Not sure that’s going to be the case moving forward.
Dudes commit to UGA to set their price.
Rule #1 NEVER listen to fans (especially, me)
Rule #2 Recruiting is all brand new, complaining like it’s 2024 is loser effort.
Brock, Badd Ladd & Lil Stet won us rings, worrying about recruits (that will probably be bought off) wins nada.
I quit following recruiting at all. Since the NIL and portal you will not really know who’s on the team until kickoff.
I believe, building a football team is fundamentally changing. Like Derek said, it used to be all about stacking top three classes on top of each other year after year. But now why would you pay big bucks in NIL money for a bad ass high school player who is two or three years away from significantly contributing when you can go in the portal and get maybe two or three players who have proven ability that you have evaluated and who can contribute from day one.
CJ and Quay were either 4 or 5-stars, depending on the site. Also, Kirby’s staff can develop, but it’s harder to hit on a lower rated guy than a higher rated guy. There’s mountains of evidence on this. That being said, I love the tape of these current 3-stars and believe they’ll be ranked much higher come fall.
