Good morning!
One good solid month left until football on the Gregorian Calendar.
Here is card #131 from the set:

Not to disparage Guthrie but, a consistent special teams performance and sharing a tackle with your brother doesn’t exactly scream Finest. I’m sure he was a DGD but, the research put into these cards seems like something me and my buddies could come up with over a couple cases of beer.
Go Dawgs!
I think I get your point that the people who put together the card set could find a better leading feature for each player, or maybe find players of more note. But I kind of like seeing history of ordinary Bulldog Jimmies and Joes. Nice change of pace.
Spreading the history, that is UGA football puts mine Red and Black soul in a warm and fuzzy place….Otis muh man, a couple o cases of your favorite brew/adult beverage, shared with your buddies exploring a better UGA football player type info cards, could be another “Georgia Point of Pride”…GO DAWGS!!
Okay I’ll bite: What day does football begin on the Julian calendar? And to be completely anal: how about on the Hebrew calendar?
Sorry. I do that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hebrew calendar: 9 Elul 5785
My theory is that the creators of these cards could afford what Trippi, Walker, Butler, and other higher profile players charged for their rights and did not have much left in the pot to get rights to the remaining number of cards. Consequently the could afford Butch Box and the Guthrie cousins but not more recognizable players.

We had some of these cards as kids, they came out in a time when they were releasing cards for Batman movies, eveyone was cashing in on the trading card model. They likely weren’t well researched.
