Blue and Orange Sunday

Well this should be interesting in Gainesville today. First, a little Tom Petty.

Now, on to the cryptic news.

If you voted that Billy would be fired before the Georgia Game, you seem to be on to something.

Update…he gone.

  1. Just came across the inter web that the gators have fired Napier. After a disappointing start to the season. Source is the Independent Alligator.

    • What do you reckon they’re going to do in Tallahassee? Some of the Nole faithful are calling Norvell “Vanilla Willie.”

      • Big check to fire Norvell. Almost 3 times Billy’s going away present.

      • I am 30 miles the choke called Doke and the calls for norvell to go are at Napier levels. I revel in their misery. Flying 3000 miles to get spanked by a 2-4 team and running the losing streak of acc loses to 9 is more than the crimiNole nation can take. The Tallahassee Democrat (local daily rag) is publishing articles asking if the university should pony up the $59.2 million or let norvell drag the prestige (gag) of fsu through the mud for the next few years. Either way they go these are great times for me.

  2. So they think by firing sunbelt Billy they wil play better Against us? FTMFERS

    • There have been a couple of examples of interim coaches catching folks this year.

    • No. The AD knows that Napier has to go. He is guarding against the risk Napier may beat us and FSU. Then is supporters will scream, “How can they fire a guy who turned it around and finished 4-2 against that schedule??!!??”

    • Was pretty obvious in 2014 they played harder for Muschamp to try and keep him from getting fired….

    • This is whut you love about some programs, they’ll hire a name to build/rebuild the current state of the program only to fire/hire to rebuild in 2 to 4 years, then fire/rehire a lesser name to rebuild in 3 to 5 years, generally speaking are in worse situation than 6 years prior….the $ound of monie$, coupled with the de$ire to win now, in this nil/transfer world do not align themselves…GO DAWGS!!

    • He’d deserve all that he would get if he went there. They’ll erect a statue for him in Oxford if he stays. He’s under no more pressure there than what he has caused for himself -which is the opposite of Gainesville.

        • It is truly Righteous!
“Billy Napier’s buyout is approximately $20.4 million if he is fired after the 2025 season, which is 85% of his remaining contract. If fired, half of the total amount, about $10.7 million, would be owed within 30 days, with the remainder paid in installments over the next four years.”
Slightly better than an eight-ball and $2 million.

          • Really missed an opportunity with a headline of “Uncle Baby Billy’s Buyout Bonkers.”

  3. Why would Kiffin go to UF? With its remaining schedule win at Oklahoma and it is very likely he is in the ESPN Invitational. That will refute the podcasters’ meme that Kiffin will leave OM because he knows he can’t make the playoffs there.

    • It is a worthy question, in this environment, why would Joey Freshwater depart a foundation he’s worked to build…if you go to FU, that honeymoon period is very short, laner has a proven record of losing games he’s supposed to win….shit, he’s top 4 in sec hc’s salary, can FU afford to do that fucking crazy indiana money thing….GO DAWGS!!

  4. Is it too much to hope that the Turds hire James Franklin? I mean, I’m pretty sure it is, but that would be *chef’s kiss*. Don’t think they can afford to hire Kiffin and keep the players they need to keep. Hope I’m wrong, b/c Kiffin is the best the Turds could do.

  5. Not loving the timing of this move with the upsets that have occurred this season after the firing of head coaches (UCLA & UAB). Hopefully Gunner heals up and plays like he just did vs Ole Miss.

  6. Hopefully the backup coach doesn’t carry the same voodoo as backup QB! — MechanicsvilleDawg

  7. Not good timing for Dawg fans, but the internets were teeming with rumors yesterday that Jorts U. might jettison Napier prior to the bye week. Freeze might be next!

  8. Other than James Franklin, who ain’t exactly sizzling, who are the hot items?

  9. Past time to rip the band aid off. I agree with comments that it doesn’t do us any favors because we have started slow against teams that we have film on. Still, I think it happened now because Stricklin wants to keep his own job. I don’t think they can hire Kiffin – at least not until after the season – but Franklin would be a *chef’s kiss* hire. And he is available right this minute.

    • I wonder if Pedo State would help pay Franklin’s salary if it reduced their buyout obligation?

  10. Kirby should hire him as an analyst on a two-week contract. Sit him in a corner and let him color or something but think how it would mess with the TURDs head. Let him go right after the game.

  11. The timing stinks for us. Look no further than UAB playing their first game for an interim coach and get a massive upset beating Memphis Saturday. Wish they would have waited.

I’ve enjoyed following their misery the past two seasons on 24/7. There was a time Franklin was an option with the fans. There would be torches and pitchforks now at that press conference. Most of them believe Kiffin has been waiting for the chance to follow in their mind his guy Spurrier. It’s all been cooking behind the scenes for weeks. Sometime between Friday and today it all went behind a paywall. I’m going to miss that dumpster fire.

Given that Spurrier blasted their own fans for unreasonable expectations when leaving for the NFL. The NIL, portal opportunities and playoff expansion have totally changed the playing field. It might be hard leave Oxford now why jump into the Florida pressure cooker. 5 years ago yeah if you wanted to win a NC you had to be at a Name Brand school. He can collect an annual 10 million dollar deal there just for a chance to make the playoffs. Win just an SEC championship once and they’ll build him a statue. He can have a chance to win big now without the headache of handbag nation.

  12. I’m betting they end up with Franklin. He’s an asshole so he’ll fit right in. Think Spurrier but can’t really coach.

    • That would definitely go against Strickin’s prior hires, but as you noted Franklin would fit in culturally.
Summeral at Tulane or Dillingham @ Az. State look to be the up and comers that fit their AD’s strategy. Auburn may join the festivities if the Dillingham talk starts getting a little more chatter.

  13. If I was to bet it would be Brent Key gets offered the job. He’s been reported to be Stricklin’s choice. That’s if Kiffin says no. It wouldn’t surprise me if Key said no. LSU might come open soon too. Last year the handbags probably could have gotten Kiffin. Their search might become another dumpster 🔥.

  14. Doubt the decision for new HC is made until December. Need to see who’s on the market among active coaches. Stunned if the type of person they go for would leave a program mid-season. They want a brand name this time from the P4. Paying Kiffen more than Kirby is enough to get Joey’s attention. Dinkwich? Not Key or Vandy’s homer. Franklin may interview well but don’t see it. Stoops may get a look. Pickings slim for current and ex-HCs. Assistant too big of a risk.

My bet…they go all in on Kiffen. Contract will be biggest in CFB. He’ll get them to the playoffs in two years.

  15. I believe the only way their AD made the move was to save his own head. Can’t remember but how many hires has Strickland made, Napier, Mullen, maybe Mclewin??. That is not a track records to be proud of. Gotta believe the fl money barons know that too.
