Against All Odds

At least one bookmaker has released their forecast for the upcoming season.

Consider this your daily reminder that Auburn sucks, because I just don’t see how Auburn has improved enough to achieve 8 wins, given that a few teams they’ll play have likely gotten better.

I am a little stumped at the odds for TAMU, considering they still have a talented group and have beefed up through the portal and recruiting, as well. I’d be willing to put some good money on Vanderbilt exceeding 5.5 as well as Arkansas if they can just keep their QB healthy.

Who do you see as beating the odds here, and who do you think will fall short?

  1. Oklahoma will struggle to make seven wins IMO. They could end up with just five. Brutal schedule really. I spent a lot of time in OKC years ago with work and those assholes always talked shit about the SEC. Bet they won’t now.

  2. I feel Oklahoma and Florida will exceed and Florida could play for the sec championship against us.

I think Tennessee will under achieve.

    Vanderbilt will go bowling again.

  3. All of this is with a quick look at the schedules at fbschedules.com and may not appropriately take into account teams playing one another.

Alabama 9½ – over … they may even be 11-1.
    Georgia 9½ – over … likely 10-2 but I won’t be surprised with 11-1 (one of those 2 won’t be Alabama)
    Texas 9½ – over … likely 10-2 (Ohio State & the Dawgs)
    LSU 8½ – under … I don’t like Kelly or Nussmeier
Ole Miss 8½ – under … they don’t have the transfer star power this year and Kiffin’s ego will cost them at least 1 game
Tennessee 8½ – over … the only reason is Sun Belt Billy may be a dead man walking by November
Auburn 8 – under … not sold on Jackson Arnold and someone is going to upset them (my bet is Arkansas)
    Texas A&M 8 – under … Texas 8&4 may be Texas 7&5 this year
Florida 7½ – under … that schedule is a beast and Billy needs to go over to save his job
South Carolina 7½ – under … the Lamecocks aren’t going to sneak up on anyone this year. Shut down Sellers run game … shut down their offense
Missouri 7 – under … the fight for bowl eligibility comes to Cola West. The only reason they could go over is the soft as Charmin schedule
Oklahoma 7 – push … brutal schedule and they aren’t going to replicate beating Alabama in T-town against the Tide and the officials
Vanderbilt 5½ – under … I just don’t see bowl eligibility in the cards this year in Nashville
Arkansas 5 – push … 5 seems about right and that probably gets the Pitt Boss a nice buyout check
Kentucky 4½ – under … basketball season likely starts at the second bye week
Miss State 3½ – under … they are going to be terrible with no hope in sight

  4. It helps to understand these predictions if you remember that oddsmakers aren’t in the business of being right – they are in the business of stimulating action on bets. WTF is a 1/2 win?

      • I understand but it is pointless from a non-betting fan perspective. You can’t predict 1/2 a win and be right ever. Unless a tie is half a win from the old days, I guess.

  5. My happy hour friends include an Ole Miss and Notre Dame fan. Between now and kickoff, we will sit at a bar and go through every schedule playing over/under at least 30 times between now and kickoff. The ND fan grew up in a big college coaching environment, so I typically take his picks over.. coughcough… SEC homers 😉

  6. I dunno, the Auburn team might rally around their new coach after Happy Freeze gets fired mid-year for playing too much golf.

  7. Bama is not the Bama of old and Kirby wants this win bad. It is at home and barring a repeat of the monsoon last time we played in Sanford I believe we will show up and show out.
