I’ll let Jordan Hall do the talking to start:
Losses suck. I’m as guilty as anyone here of being let down, frustrated, and pissed at yet another loss to Alabama. All the memories of past let-downs pile on, they hurt, and the finger pointing begins. The defense looks less-than-elite. Stockton should’ve taken more downfield shots. The fourth down call was bad, in execution, but watching the replay, if the guard gets to the second level and gets the linebacker, Jones walks in to the endzone. Ball game. Such is football. Losses can bring out the worst of us, and I’m no exception to that.
Football blogs and banter are full of woulda, coulda, shoulda’s. There were Richt apologists and Richt detractors, and we find ourselves here ten years later, two National Championships and a few SEC Championships later, and we’re right back where we started. We have two camps, and guess what…we always likely will. That’s the nature of sports sociology.
The Senator did a remarkable job of providing wit, wisdom, and especially moderation as a site owner of Get the Picture. While we are doing our level best to maintain the spirit and community, all of us are gainfully employed and have family commitments, so while we enjoy keeping this going, we are not equipped to fully moderate and analyze every comment and back-and-forth that takes place at the site. While we can all agree to disagree on sports subjects, getting personal and toxic in our responses to one another cannot be allowed.
Moving forward, a few things:
- I’ve kept the commenter controls to allow for people not logged in to WordPress to comment, meaning some come up as “anonymous”. I realize we’ve had our site issues, so this was left on as a courtesy and convenience. It seems some of the more divisive commentary is coming from “anonymous” commenters. Should this continue, this will be toggled back to WordPress logins only. If you struggle to login, at least include your handle with your comment if you can as an anonymous poster.
- Any unnecessarily personal vitriol will be subject to a warning and possible ban should that be the ongoing nature of the commenter.
The content creators here enjoy keeping this site alive. It is, however, a labor of love, and can just as easily end as it started. We don’t want that to happen, but creating content while having to manage adult behavior isn’t what anyone signed up to do. Yes, there was the Playpen, so if you’re pointing to that as a source, know it was opened in the same spirit as the Senator, to keep the politics out of sports posts, and it was likewise shuttered for the same reason the Senator closed it. We reflected and reacted, moving on.
As Mr. Hall said above, though, the site didn’t begin with a negative comment and it won’t end with one, either. As long as there’s Georgia football, there’ll be discourse and disagreements, but we should, at least, be able to rally around one thing…at least we aren’t Auburn.
We’re all Dawgs here, and we’re all passionate about our team. There’s a lot of football to be played and a lot of discussions to be had, so consider this your Senator-esque warning and reminder: behave, you scamps.
Go ‘Dawgs.
Well said. The truth is we are spoiled with success.
We use to hope we would win. Now, we expect to win.
Go Dawgs
Well said JP. I’m on the downside of my days and remember those years where we would have killed to be where the Bulldawgs are now. Yeah, I gripe a bit, but that’s because I’m such a rabid fan. However, I no longer let a loss dwell as I did in the past. I just remind myself that Kirby will not get outworked and he will always strive to do whatever he can to make The Dawg Nation Great!! He played in the red and black and UGA is his heart and soul. So, I’m going to sit back and cheer like hell for the dawgs knowing were in good hands with Kirby. “Go You Silver Britches”.
I very rarely comment, and I don’t even know if I am anonymous or not. My name is Scott Rollins, just so you know. It’s a shame that some folks can’t play well with others. Go Dawgs!
Good thoughts and reminder that this is still just a game. Like nearly everyone else, I was bummed out last Saturday but the sun still came up on Sunday.
Someone here said we’re now playing pro football, so all we need to do it make the playoffs. All our goals are in front of us.
Oh, and now I realize how overly optimistic I was and how young this team still is. Keep chopping and later this season and next season, them Dawgs will be hell!
Everyone’s opinion is none of my business. Go Dawgs!
I appreciate the efforts of all our contributors to keep GTP a great way for me to start my day.
Yeah yeah yeah, I grumbled and whined, and in hindsight I did predict in the preseason we would lose to Tennessee only to regroup, rebound, learn from the L and dominate the rest of the season on an unworldly streak of W’s. So I was off by a week, what can I say? 😉 So let’s finish the drill boys! Go Dawgs!
And of course, a huge hats off to the folks who keep this blog and the Senator’s memories alive!
We appreciate all you do. Thank you. I’ll be retiring soon. Though not a writer, I am an IT guy. So, if I may be of assistance in the future please do not hesitate to ask. I may not be able to help but I am willing to take a look. I would hate for this blog to go away.
We welcome any tech support we can get. Appreciate your offer. Let me know when your retirement is finalized and you’re settled in. I’m sure there are some tech things we could have done.
Retirement date is January 1, 2026!
Thanks, JP. It’s actually an easy thing. Argue your opinions like crazy here. Just don’t take personal shots at the people making a different argument.
Good deal.
It seems like most of the division is centered around Mike Bobo. He just triggers the hell out of some of the fan base. I don’t agree with most of what the Bobo haters say but the number one hot take that I just can’t imagine anybody actually believing is this narrative that Kirby won’t fire somebody because he likes them.
God bless GTP Refugees.
In the past few years I just have t let losses ruin my entire week the way I once did.
One reason is back to back national championships. I just feel like I have no right to expect more at this point. Also, I can remember talking to my old man on the phone back when I was far from home and unable to watch much college football where I was. I can remember talking to him after a couple of different losses and him saying, “When I saw how it was going to go, I just walked back to my room, put on my hunting stuff, and went to the woods.” He had reached a point in his life where he wasn’t going to be miserable over football. I have decided to follow that example. He’s gone now. But that is a bit of wisdom that has survived him.
I spent many a fall afternoon mowing during UT & FU games. For a long while it just wasn’t worth the upset it caused. I was always relaxed & tired afterwards & had a nice lawn to sit and drink beer in.
Only derisive comment I have seen over the past few days is someone asking another poster if he was Corch….
I have had lots of problems logging into wordpress the past couple of weeks and it keeps kicking/logging me out – 79Dawg
What did I miss?
Yeah, I feel left out, lol.
Me too. Is somebody pissing everyone off? Just remember: It’s better to be pissed off than pissed on.
A little bit of personal and pointed commentary between commenters that we wanted to address before it gets too out of hand.
I don’t comment very often and really have learned through the years to stay away from comment section – some people just really love to show off their asses er I mean opinions. I want to see my Dawgs win every game but old enough now to realize it’s just a game and in the big picture of life it doesn’t mean much, especially now since it is pretty much NFL-lite. Just wanted to thank all of you contributors for keeping the tradition of GTP going. I miss the good old days of the original but I have found this site to do an admirable job of keeping the Senator’s spirit going. All of your work is greatly appreciated.
Let’s keep it classy you scamps.
Thank you
The Senator would undoubtedly approve of your message. He created a space to voice freely our opinions. Personal attacks got warnings and some few were locked out. That love of all things Georgia primarily our football dawgs is the glue that holds us. Our differences when openly shared without fear of personal attacks is what makes this place special.
I’m old enough now that I no longer attend every game or even most of them now. For years my group and I traveled to every game. Often knowing we would be carrying a loss home. No trip became more difficult than Jacksonville. My wife finally refused to go with me. Asking why put yourself through that pain. I reminded her of the Dooley years and assured her our time would come again. To those fans so spoiled to expect to win every game and demand changes after every loss. I can only feel sorry for you. Two B2B National Championships. I never thought that possible. Stop and remember there were lucky breaks that went our way to get each one.
This is the golden age of Georgia football. You can’t mention in the off season the elite in CFB without including UGA. Thats something most universities or fans never ever get. Since 2017 I’ve felt we had a legit chance to win the SEC and with a few breaks maybe get a chance at another NC. Throughout my years following the Dawgs respectability in CFB was often just a dream. Now we are on top of the mountain. Enjoy it Kirby will not coach here forever. Yes losing hurts more than winning feels good. It should if you stop and smell the roses just how many fans want what we have. The best rated coach with the most dependable win loss record in all of CFB. Appreciate every minute of it enjoy the victories and acknowledge loses do happen.
Kirby Smart is the best thing to ever happen to Georgia football. NIL has removed his biggest advantages as a recruiter. The days of stacking talent expecting kids to wait their turn perhaps years in development. Well that’s all gone and not coming back.
Now it takes a few things to break your way. Like the 4th and 26 TD pass in Knoxville. We should have lost that game. We should have beaten bama. I suspect most here would gladly swap those results.
Kirby Smart has placed Georgia football into the highest levels. Not as a one season or special class one off. We annually have a chance at greatness. That’s something I thought would never happen. Kirby makes mistakes he sure does. Just a lot less than most coaches.
If you got this far thanks for viewing my opinion. It’s that exchange of ideas knowing it’s free from personal attacks that makes this place unique on the interwebs. This is the only internet place I discuss anything the rest is a cesspool of keyboard warriors.
Thanks to all of those involved in keeping the Senator’s labor of love alive.
If I had asked ChatGPT to spit out a post for me on this topic, it would have been almost exactly what you wrote Scuba. These are the glory days my friends – enjoy them. And I appreciate all the work that all you DGD’s are doing to keep this site alive. Go Dawgs!
I very much appreciate the kind words. We all want the same thing. It’s the just how to get there part that’s the rub.
Well said. I enjoy my time in GTP Refugees with all you Scamps especially when you get that funny snarky edge going.
One minor correction, it was 4th and 6 when Gunner threw a 28 yard TD to Humphreys in Kville.
Proof reading my posts as you probably already know are not something I’m good at. Thanks for the help.
I agree with many of the comments already on here. I appreciate the hell out of all of you who make this site possible and give us a place to come together and celebrate or bemoan the Dawgs.
I too have learned to let things go pretty quickly. I did this before our ’21 natty, and I feel like I could probably coast the rest of my life off our B2B titles. That doesn’t stop me from getting on here and griping, but I don’t let it dictate my happiness.
If you’re not sure whether or not you take our Ws and Ls too seriously, just watch the latest SEC Shorts (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSB3v0MG1hE) and MrGo30 (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/agR51XSSBXk) videos. If you find yourself laughing, you’re probably just fine. If either of these makes you want to throw your phone at the wall, you might want to go outside and touch grass.
Are we spoiled with the standard Kirby Smart has set? Yes. By those standards our current defense is at best disappointing. Franky, it really sucks. The slow starts are unacceptable and I have to believe Kirby is going to make changes. That said, get back to winning this weekend and control what you can.
As for us as a fan base, even with the early kick and it being Homecoming, we need to be there early and make Kentucky uncomfortable with the din. Let’s help these guys a best we can. Perhaps, I know this as asking a lot, we can get off to a faster start.
Lots more answers here than from fans and media types:

Not really
Thanks for all you and the team do to keep this site and the Senator’s spirit alive! –MechanicsvilleDawg
I have not read the comments since the loss because they tend to go toxic. I hope you do turn on the toggle to stop anonymous comments because the allow trolls and others to post just to stir things up. People should own their words. Thanks for continuing the Senator’s good work.
I am glad this is the attitude of the players. I’m rooting for them.
But as a fan, it sounds so incredibly similar to the CMR Bobo days: “All our goals are still ahead of us”… until they inevitably always weren’t.
Believe it or not, other than when I come here and really THINK about it, I don’t get upset about losses any more. The back to back natties were all I wanted before I died (hell, I only wanted 1, and I got 2 – one of them undefeated). I am 50+ years old and went to UGA law school in the mid 90s (Ray Goff/Jim Donnan years… ouch). I suffered for 30+ years. I’m grateful for what we got even if its all we ever get.
That said… it is frustrating as hell to under-perform for EXACTLY THE SAME REASON we under performed under our last coach: MIKE FUGGIN BOBO. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. How is this even possible? This mediocre zombie OC is back to ruin things all over again in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.
And just like before, there are apologist fans who refuse to acknowledge it and give our coach a pass when he’s clearly letting the guy stay on out of personal loyalty.
I guess God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. 😛
