Monday Football Infuser: 2008 Georgia versus LSU

Feeling a little blue coming back to work today? Having that seventh third cup of coffee to try to wake up? Well, cheer up, little camper. Here’s a throwback football game for you to get the heart rate up and to have a good time to start the work week (if you’re still working).

You’ll like this one, from the lost season that was 2008. As you might recall from your PTSD therapy, 2008 was the season we started ranked #1 only to fall flat on our face and lose to Alabama in Athens. I personally attended this game and a buddy gave me tickets. I told him you should sell them and make some money, as they were going through some hard times. He insisted, I went, and I recall getting doused with a Coke from an Alabama fan after Alabama scored a touchdown to go up 31-0, only to hear him say “It’s been so long for us…we’re back, we’re back”. I said “are you fucking serious…it’s been close to thirty years for us”.

Let’s just say this was the year we learned that you have to have a defense and an offensive line to compete in the SEC.

I digress.

Anyway, I forgot about this gem from the year, Georgia versus LSU 2008. You’ll like it…Stafford, Massaquoi, Moreno, AJ Green…and Darryl Gamble getting two pick sixes in the game. It was a good game, but we were all fooling ourselves as we’d drop games to Alabama, Florida, and (gasp) Tech that year. We knew something was up after a narrow win against South Carolina, 14-7, and a closer than needed game against Arizona State where AJ caught 8 passes for 159 yards. What could’ve been.

Imagine if the team had the defense and offensive line that we’re accustomed to in Athens nowadays.

  1. Never forget that on. Got married Friday afternoon, stayed in Madison on Friday nite. We on to Hiwassee Sat morning. Made sure the cabin owner had TV set on game. Got there at gametime. Great time. October 24!! I don’t remember everything, but l do remember that!!!

  2. I was at that game. Hot as hell. But it was fun beating the defending champs like that at their place.

  3. Same — was at the game. Never seen a stadium empty as quickly at halftime. Coon-asses knew they were toast and waaaaaay overrated. The drive back to Biloxi (Weekend HQ) was glorious. THERE AINT NOTHING BETTER THAN BEATING THE HELL OUT OF A LOUD TALKING AND OBNOXIOUS COON ASS LSU FAN!
