Caption This: Burt and Vince in Athens

Here’s a throwback picture that I came across on Twitter:

Apparently, the picture is from 1982 when Burt Reynolds and Jim Nabors were in Atlanta filming Stroker’s Ace. Too bad they didn’t bring Loni with them.

What do you think they’re talking about?

  1. Burt Reynolds at that time was the definition of southern cool.

I wonder what he would have thought about the way the Dawgs committed first degree murder on his Seminoles in Miami.

  2. Coach Dooley: Can I get a truckload of Coors by sundown?
Burt: Snowman, you got your ears on… we gotta another run to make

  3. Jim Nabors: One day, Indiana is gonna’ win a MNC too…..
Burt & Vince: [complete silence, stare at one another, raise eybrows and roll eyes, say nothing, smirk a little]

  4. In the middle to late 1980s Dooley had celebrities serve as head coaches of each squad at GDay. He may have gotten Reynolds to so serve and Reynolds’s good buddy Nabors came along. Someone on this board may recall one way or the other.

  5. Reynolds is clearly looking at Stegman and thinking about riding a motorcycle over the top.

        • Boogie Nights is a fantastic movie and may not even be PTA’s best. I find it fascinating though that he conceived the idea while still in high school and growing up on the fringes of the mainstream and adult entertainment industry.

      • I don’t think it was the best of his movies but it was a very good one that should get WAY more love than it does.

    • Burt Reynolds dreams of doing what Jake Scott did, I like it. BTW, I routinely (after some distilled jubilation) replace Chuck Norris with Jake Scott when citing facts at the Tailgate.
Fact: A Gopher Ridge Rattlesnake once bit Jake Scott and after 72 hours of extreme pain, fevers and hallucinations – the snake died.

        • Good question Pope, South Georgia’s answer to Deliverance Country located near Douglas. Known for Georgia’s beloved state reptile the Gopher Tortoise and mean spirited Timber Rattlers. Many fine folks have Dove Hunting Patches nearby and there was some Federal Land the Coastal Plains Experiment Station used.

  6. In Dooley’s later years he had “celebrity head coaches” as the titular head coaches at G-Day. It may have been that Burt was going to be a celebrity coach at G-Day.

  7. dooley is talking football, burt is checking out the cheerleaders, and jim is also checking out cheerleaders just the one’s in pants.
